Panzershrek II
Panzershrek II
Vehicle: Panzershrek II
Tech Base: Inner Sphere - Level 2
Chassis Design: V.T.O.L.
Vehicle Mass: 10 tons
Engine: 40 Rawlings Air Turbine I.C.E
Vehicle Movement:
Cruise Speed:97.2 km/h
Flank Speed:151.2 km/h
Armour Type:Kressly Stoneskin 40X Standard
Armament:
6x Death Blossum ROCKET LAUNCHER 10 - OS
Manufacturer: Kressly Warworks
Location: Epsilon Eridani
Communications System: EasyTalk-4
Targeting & Tracking System: Sloane 220 Lockover System
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OVERVIEW:
Designed as the successor to the infamous Panzershrek VTOL,
Conventry rode on the need for fast and cheap tank destroyers but
like its diminunitive predecessor, the Panzershrek II is still a 1 hit
wonder but with more tweaks.
CAPABILITITES:
The Panzershrek II is twice its predecessor in all aspects. Mounting 3
pairs of Death Blossum rocket launchers allows the slim 10 tonner to
saturate a target with 60 rockets in mere seconds, lending it a very
powerful punch if only for a moment. After that, the pilot must make a
hair raising escape which is now actually possible thanks to the
beefier armor.
The armor is by no means a gauss rifle stopper, but the frontal nose
armor is thick enough to shrug off a PPC hit that might engulf the lone
crew man in a ball of man-made lightning. Other locations have being
improved as well, the sides are capable of handling most large bore
laser fire and repel small arms. The rear armor did not get as much
protection as most pilots wanted but Conventry felt that the
Panzershrek II main role is to actually survive entering the battlefield
and be able to unload its payload intact, instead of turning back and
retreating alive. That was that and thus Conventry focused more on
frontal protection than the rear.
Still the paper rear armor isn't that terrible, being reasonably thick
enough to repel the odd medium laser and small arms and
battlefield reports that the Panzershrek II had a 60% increase of
pilots returning alive when compared to the Panzershrek which is
known as a flying coffin.
All this improvements all come at a price though, with the machine at
double the price of its predecessor, however Conventry felt that 1
alive pilot is a lot better than 2 dead pilots.
DEPLOYMENT:
Surprisely, the Lyran Alliance were not particular sold on the idea and
Conventry was forced to sell the VOTL into the Chaos March.
However, Conventry wasn't too interested in manufacturing lots of
small helicopters when they can be making more Hauptmanns and
Razorbacks, thus manufacturing rights were sold to Kressly Warworks
who now churn the Panzershrek in the thousands.
VARIANTS:
Extremely popular among lower end Chaos March powers, some of the
minor lords use various different munition types for the rockets.
Ranging from the default HE to incendiary ammuntion and even small
scale chemicals like mustard gas to disable enemy troops.
Other variants include mounting an SRM4 launcher loaded with
inferno ammo but this is not popular as the VTOL rarely has a chance
to launch more than 2 - 3 volleys before getting destroyed and the
ammo is relatively costly. Others refit the helicopter with an array of
machine guns to serve as an anti-infantry design. Or a troop carrier
design with a combination of either some machine guns or rocket
launchers.

remineds me of my strike design. Think it had 8 RL15's and moved at 11-17.

It was interesting. never used it though. Kind of saw it as a fast strike harasser unit. Zooms in at 17 hexes and unloads on a unit then if it surives it leaves to reload and rinse and repeat.

and if i ever play Periphery units i would use designs like this and strips those RLs off my mechs. RLs are silly on mechs and work best with such coffin designs.
