If you're playing by yourself trry to "Host a Game". Then when it all loads and either add a bot or play yourself. To play yourself write down the IP shown on the message area in MM and then open another MM window and press the "Connect to Game" button and put the written down Ip address in.

When you first start MeagMek, you're presented with a number of buttons. One of these is "Host a scenario," which lets you play a scenario, either with someone or against the bot. But the first one is "Host a new game," which brings you to a screen allowing you to choose 'Mechs, maps, options, and whatnot. Then you click "I'm done" to get into the game.

He forgot to mention that you need to set up a bot as well when you host a new game, if you're playing solo, that it. (almost said playing with yourself...but it didn't quite sound right
Before you click "I'm Done" open up another window of megamek, and click on connect as a bot, and set up the bot's mechs and suchnot. Then click I'm done for both, and off you go. Don't forget to set the bot's starting edge, otherwise it starts smack dab in the middle of the mapsheet.

Actually, the newer versions of MegaMek make adding a bot much easier. In the configure screen, there's an "Add bot" button, right below the button where you select your 'Mech's color/paint scheme.

Once bot is added and your playing dont touch their buttons on their window, you will put it under your control and take over the bots place.
Also, i have found that when giving bots vehicles they tend to get confused with immobile ones, they sit forever and don't end the turn.
