The product of my great amusement with the combat vehicle rules, and extensive boredom. I apologize for the formatting.

==Overview:==
At the height of the Star League, Castles Brian were often emplaced to defend important locations. However, the extreme cost of creating these often made them unpopular with high command, even with their great effectiveness. In addition, Castles Brian had the simple problem of being stationary; an enemy always knew exactly where to find them, because they had nowhere else to go. This made them severely vulnerable to siege, orbital bombardment, and nuclear attack; and raised the risk of their simply being ignored if defeating them wasn't critical to the operation at hand. In response, SLDF High Command formed a commission to study improving or replacing Castles Brian in the defense of the Star League. Many ideas were floated, and several got to the prototype stage. One that reached the prototype stage was Project Leviathan, which hearkened back to the 20th century days of glory of wet navies on Terra.
Aircraft carriers have always been an effective force multiplier, allowing forward mobile bases to support and maintain aircraft. It allows projection of force far beyond the fixed facilities of a nation. When mankind rose to the stars, wet navies were generally obsoleted, and with the advent of effective transatmospheric fighters, carriers became largely obsolete; but the Commission pointed out several advantages. First, since they weren't in orbit, they were not subject to preemptive strikes before an invasion. Second, because their movement didn't require coming up into radar coverage, they could be kept secret from an enemy far more easily. And third, technological advances since the 20th century allowed modern carriers advantages that ancient ones never could have dreamed of.
==Capabilities:==
The Leviathan was designed to never actually enter combat, but to instead act as a mobile and secret base for defensive forces, possibly fighting a guerilla war. To that end, it incorporated three flight decks and two additional helipads to support its massive vehicle bays - 72 aircraft (either Aerospace or conventional) and 72 light vehicles. The vehicle bays were designed to be split between VTOLs and hovercraft, with front and rear bay doors allowing the latter to move directly into support of the mothership while surfaced. These vehicle bays also had the ability to act as transport for other ground vehicles, by using the deck elevators. Lastly, the Leviathan also mounted bays for 72 naval vessels up to 100 tons, and incorporated 8 bay doors to allow access for these vehicles. Submersibles could even be launched while the mothership was herself fully submerged, allowing great flexibility.
Obviously, a vessel of this size would never leave the planet on which it was constructed; because of this, the entire ship was designed to be assembled from components shipped in. While this was never actually tested, critics pointed out that the 100 individual sections were each still quite difficult to transport, and would require weeks of heavy labor to assemble.
Trials after completion of the prototype showed several additional problems with the design. First, while it had reasonable storage for spare parts and munitions, it had no dedicated liquid fuel storage. The Leviathan itself was fusion-powered, and it was assumed that all parasite units would also be fusion-powered; so any units which required refueling had to depend on other supply ships or simply stacking fuel tanks in the cavernous cargo holds.
In addition, due to space restrictions, the Leviathan herself ended up with only approximately a 4-month food supply. On extended voyages, the ship was highly dependant on supply ships for consumables.
Third, the lack of any armament in initial trials caused problems - even a minor breakthrough could prove catastrophic. While plans for future versions included significant armament to combat this problem, the prototype was refitted with several anti-missile systems and ECM suites, plus a single turreted Arrow IV array for self-defense. These were ruled an appropriate compromise when combined with the vehicular forces available to the ship.
Lastly, no cargo hoist or other docking/loading equipment was ever included; because of this, any supplies and materials depended on hovercraft, VTOLs, or other ships to aid in loading and unloading.
==Battle History:==
The Leviathan has never been in actual combat, having been forgotten in the mists of time. However, as a support vehicle and not a front-line battle unit, combat which directly involves the Leviathan would probably result in the destruction of the unit.
==Notable Vehicles & Crew:==
The SLDFS Leviathan is the only unit of this class every created, and so is notable to that extent. However, after the Exodus fall of the Star League, the plans were lost and the original base lost to external contact. Noone currently knows the extent to which the project's information - and the Leviathan herself - still exist.

Man this sure cost a pretty penny. But it is plausible enough though.

bummer, beat me to it.
Nice work. I was just getting started on a much scaled down heli-pad ship. I only have the rules for ships up to 300 tons so I am limited to that. I do like the idea of carrier battles in the BT universe. Just imagine mechs standing on a flight deck getting ready to jump onto land or an opposing carrier if it gets close enough.
