Effective and solid, if short-ranged. Cheap too. I prefer heavier armor myself, but what this has is acceptable. I like it.

Not very fluffy, though. I like fluff.

Hell, fluff is the reason I've not posted any designs for a while. I haven't had time to sit down and write fluff recently. When the semester's over though, watch out. I've got 'em lined up and waiting.

Edit:
I should proof more thoroughly. There's no "u" in "armor."

Odd mistake to make.

The King's English is filled with superfluous letters. We just trimmed them down a little.

Precisely. No one pronounces those letters anyways.

But isn't it the Queen's English?

Edit:
How interesting. Warhammer and I have the same number of posts. You don't see that often.

It was only (relatively) recently that Britain was ruled by Her Majesty. Before then, it was the King. Therefore, the King's English.

As for the armor, what's wrong with 8.5 tons? That's about as heavy as a 40-tonner's armor gets.

Ok. I figured it changed, just like it's "Her Majesty's Government." Not that I can claim to be particularly knowledgeable about royalty and how one speaks of them and things related to them.

It's a ton short, actually. I'm big on max or near max armor. The lighter the 'Mech, the closer to max I want it. I mentioned it because that's just how I am, but pushed it off to the side because the 'Mech doesn't suffer too badly from it.

Just as an example, the 45 tonner I'm working on right now has 152 points of armor. I think that bringing it to the full 9.5 tons is worth the loss of weapons space, even though that ton would let me thicken up my armament a bit.

In short, I'm a max armor freak. I'll almost always mention it if a 'Mech is short of max armor. Only if something has astounding weapons, like Vagabond's IVN-1A Ivan, can I ignore the lack of armor. And even then it irks me just a bit.

While I was fluffing it up, I made a few changes.

Type/Model: Cypher CPR-1X
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3050
Config: Quad BattleMech
Rules: Level 2, Custom design

Mass: 40 tons
Chassis: Alshain Class 48 Endo Steel
Power Plant: 240 Hermes Fusion
Walking Speed: 64.8 km/h
Maximum Speed: 97.2 km/h
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: 0 meters
Armor Type: New Samarkand Royal with CASE Standard
Armament:
2 Diverse Optics ER Medium Lasers
  1 Matabushi Guardian Guardian ECM
1 Victory Drumbeat Large Pulse Laser
1 Diplan Beagle Beagle Active Probe
Manufacturer: Luthien Armor Works
  Location: Luthien
Communications System: Sipher Security Plus w. Guardian ECM Suite
Targeting & Tracking System: Diplan Beagle

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
It has long been an established fact that four-legged battlemechs are
inherently more stable over rough terrain than their two-legged cousins.
Unfortunately, this stability comes at the cost of weapon space, a price few
'mech designers are willing to pay.

Weapons space, however, doesn't matter when you don't have very many weapons
in the first place. This was the thought Luthien Armor Works put into their
newest scout design, the CPR-1 Cypher.

==Capabilities:==
The Cypher is a oddity among 'mechs, in that its' support weapons actually
have a longer reach than the main gun.

The 'mechs main weapon, the Victory Drumbeat Pulse Laser, is housed in a
turret, much like the one carried by the design's ancestor, the Goliath. This
turret gives the 'mech an unparalleled field of fire, and has made the "hull
down" position a favorite among test pilots.

The Cypher's other two weapons, a pair of Diverse Optics Extended-Range
lasers, are housed in the torso, helping to protect the 'mech from anything
that gets too close.

The 'mechs true capability lies not in its weapons, but in its
information-gathering abilities. The Diplan Beagle probe allows the Cypher to
easily compete with other, faster scout designs, and the Matabushi Guardian
ECM system protects it from being detected in return.

::bangs head::

Ignore what I said about the armor. It's a 40 tonner damnit, not 45. The closer one gets to exam time, the less capable one is when it comes to mathematics.

Cute idea in making it a quad. Now it really has some personality. Me likes.
