If the pilot doesn't fire either his two flamers, or his LRM, this 'mech can run as fast as it can through a flaming forest. If you use the Level 3 rules for Inferno LRMs, it becomes all the more effective.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
The Demagogue was designed as a sort of "bigger brother" to the Firestarter.
Unfortunately, the Amaris Civil War prevented the design from being fully
tested.

==Capabilities:==
The Demagogue was designed to not only perform the role of the lighter
Firestarter, but to expand upon it. Not only will the Demagogue start fires,
it will actually fight inside of them, moving through the flames to surprise
and confuse its opponents.

==Deployment==
Only one Demagogue class battlemech was ever constructed. It was deployed in a
specialized research facility on Luna, which was destroyed as a target of
opportunity by a passing Rim Worlds dropship.

Interesting. But you only pick up two heat from a fire hex, right? If it's cumulative (don't recall) then that's 12 heat; still a little oversinked, I think.

And inferno SRMs might be an interesting addition. The inferno LRMs sound pretty good; I've never heard of them before.

And a general question. Can someone please tell me what sort of launcher can fire infernoes. My understanding is that it's the SRM 2, and only the SRM 2. But it I've seen it said that it's the SRM 2 and Streak SRM 2, as well as that it's all standard SRMs (MegaMek.) Which of the three is correct?

Level 2 rules say that only SRM-2s can fire inferno rounds (maybe shoulder-launchers that infantry carry can too, but I'm not sure). I don't think that Streak missiles can be inferno rounds, since they're too packed with electronics and such. Level 3 rules say that any SRM or LRM system can have inferno rounds (i'm still not sure about Streaks, though).

And about the extra heat sink: you can use it to help with battle damage (picking up the slack for a destroyed heat sink), or possibly for some other reason.

I believe that under currant rules ANY size STANDARD SRM launcher can launch inferno missiles. LRMs and Arrow IV are still level three And they cannot be fired from Streak launchers.

It appears that both myself and Motown are wrong (me more than him).

The Battletech Master Rules include both Inferno SRMs and LRMs in Level 2. Shoulder-fired SRMS carried by infantry can carry Inferno rounds, but Streak systems are incompatable.

Infernos can be carried by any standard SRM or LRM launcher.

To emphasize the true effect of this version of the Demagogue, I feel I have to paint a little picture.

You are riding point for your lance, on a smash-and-grab raid in enemy territory. You have had to take cover in a forest to shield yourself from enemy sattelites and airborne recon craft. You have to move slowly to keep cool, since that jerk commanding the enemy troops has gotten the idea of burning you out of hiding, and has set fire to the entire area.

You notice something moving through the smoke, and before you can react, a laser beam slashes across your leg! You return fire, but the target is gone. Your cockpit is like an oven now, the flames around you preventing your overtaxed heat sinks from properly venting the heat your weapons have generated.

Your lancemates have already started to call out suspicious readings, and #2 reports he is under attack! Turning as best you can, you barely see two 'mech-sized shapes through the smoke and flames, Savaging #2 with volleys of laserfire. Numbers 3 and 4 are already moving to assist, but the two shapes withdraw and disappear.

Suddenly, #3 is down! Several molten holes are left in what used to be his rear armor...

In the age of standard heatsinks and heat-inefficient 'mechs, coordinated and skilled Demagogue lances would be a literal nightmare for any attacking force.

Here's how the math works out:

12 heat (running through 6 hexes of fire) + 2 heat (running) + 8 heat (Large Laser) + 3 heat (Medium Laser) = 25 heat

I love this mech.. And I love fighting in fires and smoke. I would probably use it more in defense, Set up a smoke filled area to lure the enemy into. Hide a few heavy hitters and battlearmour in there, and the ambush would be complete. B)
