A case of " i have too many guns to use" but the mech still pulls it off rather successfully, allowing it to engage a myriad of different attacks at varied ranges but i digress.

Where is the ERPPC ? Its the heart and soul of the Panther design. This mech is like an Urban mech without its AC.

Sorry but i have to rate this lower than normal. The design is intriguing, but it aint a Panther.

I don't have a problem with this review or the rating till he mentions the ER PPC. The Clan ER Large has a longer range, the same damage, and lower heat, while still maintaining a perfect bracket setup.

16 for weapons plus 4 for the jump at range = 20. (ER Large, 2 LRM 5)

or 14 for weapons plus 4 for the jump at close range = 18. (2 ER Mediums, 2 SSRM 2s, the machine guns)

I'm not seeing too many weapons here. Heck you could fire an LRM 5 in there as well since it lacks a minimum.

I think it was more a fluff thing, him mentioning the ERPPC. This is a Clan design, right? Well, a Clan ERPPC does do 1.5 times the damage when compared to the LL.

Now, I love brackets myself. I genuinely think the standard Stalker 3F is one of the scariest things in the 3025 era. And so easy to use. Or most of the missile boats, for that matter. Or the Crusader (though that one is tricky for other reasons). You name it, chances is I love it (trying to get rid of the munch stigma, here).

On the other hand, the Clans have eliminated about 75% of the reasons for bracket fire: almost fully eliminating the minimum-range problem and introducing nifty, small DHS. On the other hand, all those ER and Ultra weapons cause a lot of extra heat.....

Really, arm a 'mech with ERPPCs and LRMs, and you don't need a short-range bracket on a Clan design. Not that this makes your argument invalid, it doesn't. But it may strike other people as plain redundant.

Well bracket firing still has a place in my heart even in clan space. It lets me manage a higher damage potential in close than ranged.

(10+2 to 10=12 to 20 against (10 + 4 to 8 = for 14 to 18). Which is better in my mind becuase its 2 rolls on the energy weapons for same damage total. Plus Streaks are fun to exploit light mech critical locations.

yup i was nit picking about the fluff and mech's history. I mean even a Urbie IIC mounts an AC why should a Panther IIC not have an ERPPC ?

like jymset wrote, its just a fluff thing. But if this mech isnt called a Panther, it could have garner a 3.5 at least.

Too True. I try to keep the spirit of the design. I just View the ER Large in Clan tech as an IS PPC. Its better in every way but heat.

Its not like I slavishly made my Crusader have 2 LL, its only got one. My ARcher and crusader both mount more missiles than the Kurita versions and the Archer as well only has one of the two Large Lasers it should have in one variant, none in the other. My Cicada is missing the machine guns. My Whitworth features SSRM racks on it as well. The Stalker is completely different. Some of my designs like the Grasshopper, and Barghest especially are nothing like the cannon original.

Plus if you really want to get technically/fluffy. The Marik (Read original) Panther that the Star League would have fielded most likely. Had LL as its primiary weapon, so it seemed a logical upgrade.

Just to point out slavish attention to upgrading the Urbanmech IIC by the clans, is what kept it bad. With an ER PPC and a few tons less they'd have managed a viable design. Not that, that is possible when we are talking about an Urbanmech.

Still, I can see your point of view. Its just I get argumentitive whenever someone says something I have an opinion on.

Ummm, if we're speaking of technicalities, then when did Marik produce a Panther variant? Let alone the "(read original)" you mentioned. Alshain Weapns was and is a Draconis industry. First produced in 2739 the Panther di indeed mount a large laser. After 2759 the large laser was replaced with a PPC. The only factory producing Panthers was/is located in the Draconis Combine.

Well kiss me pink and tickle my ear hair. Now that I look at my manuals your right

The point doesn't change that the Large Laser was the original armament .

I just wish I hadn't got my reference wrong.
