No, I don't buy Davion refitting 3025-vintage Enforcers with RAC5s in 3067. I mean, by that time it had received a major upgrade in 3050 and a successor model in the Enforcer-III.

I realise that you wanted to to give a good reason for retaining a standard engine, but it didn't really work for me, especially when the rest of the 'mech got upgraded quite a bit.

I do like that it has real back armour now (even though that *is* defeatist!) and the touch with the standard medium laser.

Yes i'm aware of the new versions, but there have to be a lot of old enforcers out there... what dod you to do to them? Replace them with new models? Or scrap them? Neither sounds very wise to me. Replacing them costs too much, scrapping them reduces your force strength.

I suppose you could leave them alone but that may not be the best idea either..

But hey, everyone's entitled to opinions.

As for the time scale.. whoops.

Too many mechs need to be shuffled into new units as they recover from the civil war. You don't dump money into refits when you need to add 2 companies to each battalion to bring em back up to regulation size. (rough analogy I know)

Its an okay upgrade, but not sure if I'd spend the money even as a mercenary to upgrade to the RAC you suggest.

That may be why you need new model's as well. Read my comments on the Guardsman

I think upgrading existing mechs is important. It may strain the state's finances, but you'll need to reinforce to match hostile powers (like the capcom and my home state for instance..)

IMO.

It seems to make perfect sense to modify them. If you've got these old Enforcers walking around, you might as well upgrade them. It doesn't cost nearly as much as building new 'Mechs, but still increases your firepower. It's not that significant an increase, but an increase nonetheless.

Besides, I doubt that there's all that many old Enforcer's left. Between not being built anymore and four different wars, their numbers are probably dwindling. So you might as well get as much as you can out of the ones that are still around.

Well, the German army's home defense force still uses Leopard 1s - straight out of the 60s. And BMP-1s from ex-East Germany. It is the active, expeditionary (dunno what it's called - I am not a military man) part of the army (you know, the part that gets sent to any crisis area) which gets the Leopard 2 and all the other shiny toys.

I would suspect the same for America - ok, in Iraq there are all those beautiful Abrams tanks. But the National Guard would still rely on the M60 in its majority. Now, how upgraded are those really?

Basically, the way I see it, the Enforcer is a match for, say, the Watchman. Meanwhile, every last D-bill is probably needed for a maximal output of, well, all the new shiny toys. So why meddle with something that is perfectly adequate when the buck is needed elsewhere?

Besides, wasn't the 3050 variant already meant to be an upgrade package? Including a (very expensive) engine swap? So wouldn't all the Enforcers that were up for upgrading (ie owned by wealthy powers) already be modern?

Well my upgrade mentality stems from where i come from.

Here in Singapore, the military upgrades EVERYTHING.

AMX-13s get upgrades, F-5s get upgrades, M-113s get upgrades (ok.. almost everyone does...), our hush hush british MBTs from the 50s get upgrades...

you get the idea

Oh and this is alongside new equipment purchases.

End use of all this military spending? Parades
(ok some of the non-killeverythinginsight stuff was put to good use helping our neighbours during the tsunami)
