Okay let's what folks come up with for this one. Looking for a fast but still packs a punch missile Cruiser. Faster then the canon vessels already in the game.

Four things that are set in stone for this challenge:

Class is called the Archer Class.

ALL weapons must be missiles, either Capital or all standard or a mix of the two, it's up to you.

No fighters. Though the ship can carry small craft or gunboat style ships. Dropships are allowed.

Please mark your entrees with a name for the vessel so as to allow all to comment without confusion.

Fluff:
Have fun with this. If you want it in the canon timeline at any point from pre SL days to current date, then let's see what you have for it. If you want it in your universe or timeline for your BT games then let's see that. Bottomline have fun and enjoy this.

Ouch. Another one. Now I have to figure out another interesting way to get a WarShip.

I'm looking forward to the Avalanche challenge. (I like NPPCs.)

Any tonnage limits here?

Well I would say on the weight limit keep it with in the normal range of canon tonnage for cruisers or you can go lower.

Say 850,000 tons

I am working on the others...just need to get some more ideas for them. (aka more reading. )

Manufacturer: Imstar Shipyards
  Location: Atreus
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
In 3067 with the conclusion of the Federated Commonwealth Civil War, the
Free Worlds League began reinforcing its naval forces in Project Camelot. This
project required that 3 new classes and 12 new ships be constructed within 5
years. Ship yards around the League were pressed into service and designs
quickly drafted. On of these designs was the Archer Heavy Guided Missile
Cruiser, which was arrayed with a massive mix of standard and capital missile
launchers. Production was authorized early 3068, and the keel layed in
December 3068.

==Capabilities:==
The Archer Guided Missiles Cruiser was designed as a long range support
warship for more conventional Naval Warships. Measuring 797 meters from stem
to stern, and massing a little over 800000 tons, the Archer is larger then
almost all Warships recently produced in the Inner Sphere. The massive
engines, produced by Imstar Shipyards, are capable of putting out a sustained
acceleration of up to 3 Gs and are fueled by colossal fuel tanks providing
nearly 30 days of fuel at maximum acceleration. Features that were called for
and required by the Captain-General in order for the design to proceed to
production; in addition, the design was to be a Heavy Support Cruiser armed
primarily with long range weapons capable of accurate fire. To fulfill this
requirement the designers did something unexpected; were other designs sported
Laser and Ballistic weapons, the Archer was armed with dozens of heavy naval
missiles.
These missiles are equipped with advanced guidance computers which allow
the missiles to perform in flight course corrections as they speed towards
there targets; however, these missiles deliver only a fraction of the
destructive power of other naval weapons. To overcome this deficiency, a
larger number of missile tubes were placed thru out the hull. The primary
launchers are equipped with the Type T Kraken Heavy Anti-Ship Missile. These
missiles are the largest Anti-Ship in use and allow unparalleled accuracy as
they are guided by gunners via tele-operation to there destination. 50 of
these missile launchers are spread about providing the Archer with
devastatingly accurate long range bombardments from any angle. The secondary
launchers are equipped with the versatile Barracuda Anti-Ship/Anti-Fighter
Missile. These long range interceptor missiles do very little damage to
Warships but are capable of severally damaging most Aerofighters. Being the
only naval missile capable of hitting fighter sized craft, the Barracuda was a
must have for the Archer as it provides the first line of defense against
enemy fighters. The tertiary launchers are groups of standard missiles
launchers which provide the second and last line of defense against enemy
fighters. The long ranged launchers are equipped with Kali Yama Weapon
Industries Type V LRM 20 racks guided with RCA/Dynatec Artemis IV FCS to lay
down withering fire as enemy fighters approach; in addition, backing up the
long ranged launchers are the short ranged launchers equipped with the
recently developed Hovertec Streak SRM 6 racks for close in anti-fighter
protection when the LRM racks are no longer effective.
Supplying these launchers are thousands of tons of ammunition in
separated auto-loading ammunition bays thru out the ship. However, even this
large amount of ammunition does not sufficiently supply the launchers with
ammo for prolonged engagements. After about 3 minutes, the ships ammunition
reserves are expended forcing the ship to withdraw for re-supply. The massive
limitation limits the usefulness of this vessel for frontline duty yet was
deemed acceptable as the vessel will be escorted by other warships it has been
assigned to support. To insure maximum effectiveness as a support ship, the
Archer class is equipped with almost 1500 tons of Lamellor Ferro-Carbide armor
plating. This plating can measure meters thick in some places and can repel
even the heaviest fire for a minute or more. Should the ships hull plating
fail or an accident occur onboard ship, the crew is provided with plentiful
escape systems and 4 shuttles in the hanger bay. These shuttles typically are
used to ferry personnel and cargo around. However, despite the presence of
these shuttles the vessel usually must dock with a station or dropship to
re-supply its munitions bays leaving both vessels vulnerable to attack.
Despite these short comings, the vessel is supplied with plenty of
armor, food, and fuel. In addition, the vessels crew accommodations are above
standard and are well supplied. The crew of 364 is supplied with a mess hall
that has supplies to feed 388 people for 182 days. In addition, two 85 meter
diameter gravity decks allow the crew there exercise and comfort on long
missions. These gravity decks are equipped with running tracks,
holo-projectors, and lounge style seating. Thou they are not extravagant;
there presence improves the crews moral. All thou these extra benefits have
been designed in, it will be seen if the ships radical weapons load will prove
ingenious or insane. None-the-less, the first ship of the class christened
Arthur is expected to be completed by December 3069 with its three sister
ships Lancelot, Galahad, and Gawain slipping from there docks every six months
there after. It seems only time will be the judge.

AeroTech 2 Vessel Technical Readout
VALIDATED

Class/Model/Name: Archer Class Heavy Missile Cruiser Jonathan Logan
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3067
Vessel Type: WarShip
Rules: Level 2, Modified design
Rules Set: AeroTech2

Mass: 950,000 tons
K-F Drive System: (Unknown)
Length: 877 meters
Sail Diameter: 1,188 meters
Power Plant: Standard
Safe Thrust: 5
Maximum Thrust: 8
Armor Type: Ferro-carbide
Armament:
75 AR10 Launcher
150 LRM 10
8 Kraken-T
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
The Archer Class of Heavy Cruiser has seen many variations.
This Archer, the Jonathan Logan, was commisioned as a fleet missile battery
designed to work with a group of frigates and corvettes, providing long range
ship to ship missile fire while the frigates and corvettes protect it from
enemy ships and fighters. The design of the Jonathan Logan precludes it from
ever operating alone however, as it would be no match for a standard Heavy
Cruiser in a straight up ship to ship fight. Thus it is a stand off vessel
that fires intense missile barrages at targets engaged with other friendly
assets.

==Capabilities:==
Mounting a large array of AR-10 Launchers in each firing arc with a huge
number of missiles, allows the Jonathan Logan to fire a barrage at virtually
any target. Additionally the Logan mounts a special fire control processor
tied into the main firing computers that allows targeting of multiple targets
regardless of arc. The Multi Vector Targeting System (MVTS) has the ability to
fire missiles from any arc's weaponry and then redirect the missiles onto a
target once they are at a safe distance from the ship. However the system is
not flawless, and is also very delicate. Severe damage to the ship or any
kinetic impact larger than a medium naval gauss slug can render the system
inoperable. This is the reason the weapons are spread fairly even across
firing arcs, with the Kraken launchers mounted in the L/R Fore-Sides. This
gives the Logan the ability to remain operational as a valuable battle asset
even when the MVTS is down.

---Special Rules---
As long as the MVTS is operational, and is not disabled for an arc's weaponry
you can fire the missile batteries in that arc as if they were in any arc.

Kinetic Impact:
White Shark & Heavy Naval Gauss - on a roll of 7-10 disable the system for the
arc where impact occured, on 11+ disable the system in that arc (permanent)
and also in rest of ship (3 turns).

Killer Whale - on a roll of 6-9 disable the system for the arc where impact
occured, on 10+ disable the system in that arc (permanent) and also in rest of
ship (3 turns).

Internal Structure Damage - for any location with more than 5 IS damage roll
every time section is hit again. On a 6+ MVTS is damaged in that section. On a
12 the system is permanently destroyed (cannot be repaired by damage control
parties/systems during combat as per rules below)

Repair - At the end of any turn in which a player has a disabled/damaged MVTS
that player may make a roll of 2d6 to determine repairs affected. (for the
notes with turns disabled that is number of turns before automatic system
reset re-enables the system). For disabled by kinetic impact a 9+ results in
functions restored, while damage due to internal structure damage needs an 9+
to restore the system, with +1 additional / 5 damage above the first 5 dealt
to the IS. (10 damage would require a roll of 10, 15 damage would need 11,
etc...)

==Battle History:==
The Logan has only participated in a minor skirmish with some renegade clan
Ghost Bear ships. The Ghost Bear fleet consisted of 2 small corvettes (unknown
class) and a larger ship that was unidentifiable except by its mass of
1,250,000 tons. The ship was unable to be fit by any profile of known clan
ships, and appeared more of a hobbled together ship comprised of permanently
attached dropships as living quarters and a smaller warship as base frame.
However the condition of the ship suggests it was a heavily damaged vessel
that had been in dry dock for repairs when the renegades won it in a trial of
possession. The only identifiable weapons on the ship were the nose mounted
dual heavy naval gauss canons. and a dual medium naval PPC on each fore side.
However it appeared that the port side battery was either non functional or
unmanned.

During this skirmish the Logan stood off while 3 corvettes and a frigate from
the 11th TBG closed in and engaged the enemy ships. The clan forces had a very
large aerospace fighter group that engaged the Logan and the frigate that had
stayed with it repeatedly. The frigates fighter squadrion and the LRM
batteries of the Logan kept the fighters busy while the Logan proceeded to
pound its missiles into the two Ghost Bear Renegades corvettes. After one of
the GBR corvettes took a White Shark directly to its bridge, killing most of
the senior officers, and the Asturian Star with the rest of the 11th TBG
jumped insystem the GBR ships proceeded to retreat to a safe jump distance,
with the mostly undamaged corvette protecting its severly wounded sister ship,
and jumped outsystem. The 11th follows, but it seems the GBR ships had been
equipped with a double set of Lithium-Ion batteries as they had somehow
already jumped outsystem. (that or they hot-charged the jump drives using
their fusion reactors...). The persuit ended their due to a cold trail and the
fact that the Asturian Star had already exhausted it's jump batteries to get
insystem, and the 11th had left several of the smaller warships and most of
the support ships behind as they had not been equipped with the Lithium-Ion
batteries.

==Variants:==
As the Logan itself is a variant of the standard Archer Class Heavy Cruiser,
and is a single ship, there are no variants of it.

==Notable Vessels & Crews:==
Jonathan Logan - Captain Esquarda Vasquez (f), First Officer Michael Thanespi
(m), MVTS Chief Engineer (also the system's designer) Eric Beaule (m)

==Deployment==
The Jonathan Logan is deployed only as part of the Star Legue 11th Tactical
Battle Group, comprised of:
an Erian Hendvarden Class BattleShip (Asturian Star), a Archer Class Heavy
Missile Cruiser (Jonathan Logan), and a random rotaion of support ships
numbering 4 corvettes, 2 Light Attack Cruisers, 1 Frigate, and numerous
support assets. The Logan has 4 permanently assiged cargo dropships to
replenish its stores, an often there are as many as 6 additional with the
fleet during combat probable periods. These dropships are not only for
munitions, but also for spare parts, food, water, and other general supplies
as the Logan was not designed with an extended cargo capacity.

==Overview:==
By March of 3068, it came to New Avalon's attention that a number of civilian
cargo ships had disappeared in the Periphery edge of the Crucis March, mostly
in the Broken Wheel Combat Region. An investigation was begun, although the
threat was assumed to be nothing more than some well equipped pirates. As more
information was gathered, however, it soon became apparent that this was not
the case.

In April, one of the AFFS DropShips serving as bait came under Aerospace
fighter attack. A quick radio message from the DropShip sent a Scout class
JumpShip out of the system, and minutes later the Fox class FSS Kathil entered
the system. This mousetrap should have been the end of the pirates, but it
turned out that the opposition was much better equipped than had been assumed.
The Kathil didn't even have time to launch her DropShips before she detected
the true threat - nearly a million tons worth of WarShip which no one had ever
seen before. Unwilling to engage in fight he had no chance of winning, the
Kathil's commander immediately jumped from the system, leaving the bait ship
to its fate but preserving his own command.

For nearly two months the Kathil pursued her enemy, answering JumpShip-relayed
distress calls only to flee when the unknown WarShip moved to engage. The
unknown WarShip was eventually designated Archer, so named because of the
seemingly all-missile armament revealed on one of the few occasions she and
Kathil exchanged fire. As the Kathil established the Archer's area of
operations, the possible number of bases narrowed significantly. A heavy task
force was formed to eliminate this base, and shortly thereafter the first and
most likely potential target was chosen.

This target was the uninhabited star system in which the "Cataphract" yard was
constructed. Unexplainably, and to many, inexcusably, that system's other jump
points were never searched. While the original "Cataphract" yard was at the
zenith point, this new task force entered at the nadir point. There they found
a small recharging station, and the blasted remains of a large WarShip
building slip. The task force captured this facility with a minimum of
resistance, and settled in to wait for their prey.

So it was that in mid-August, 3068, the Archer returned to her base for
resupply, only to find herself confronted by the WarShips Melissa Davion,
Simon Davion, Admiral Michael Saille, and Kathil, as well as three Aerospace
regiments and an assortment of assault DropShips. Faced with overwhelming
opposition and the loss of his base, the commander of the Archer surrendered.

This new WarShip was sent to Galax for analysis and repairs to minor battle
damage. As it turned out, the ship was named Twilight's Dawn, apparently a
reference to the belief that the ship's entry into combat would mark the
beginning of the end of the Civil War. Although this name is generally
considered to be less than ideal, previous bad experiences with changing the
name of a WarShip have left many in the Admiralty reluctant to do so here.

==Capabilities:==
The Twilight's Dawn is armed exclusively with missile weapons. The primary
weapons are 28 Kraken-T missile launchers, backed up by an equal number of
AR10 launchers. Against fighters, the Twilight's Dawn carries nearly a hundred
Artemis backed LRM 20 launchers, and two-thirds as many Streak SRM 6
launchers. 64 laser AMS systems guard the ship from missiles. The Twilight's
Dawn also carries very heavy armor; along with her speed and firepower, this
makes her the equal or superior of most WarShips in the Inner Sphere -
including the larger Lyran Mjolnir.

Like the Belladonna, the Twilight's Dawn lacks fighter bays. This lack is one
of the reasons for her rather heavy anti-fighter armament; it is also the
subject of much design work at Galax, for her first refit is intended to
remedy this situation. The three DropShip docking points allow her to carry
carrier type DropShips, as she did during her time as a commerce raider. These
docking points are also used during resupply operations. Also used in resupply
operations are the six small craft docking bays. On patrol, these small craft
are kept ready at all times for boarding operations by the ship's two battle
armor companies.

The Twilight's Dawn is designed with a large reserve of fuel, spare parts, and
food so that she may make long patrols without resupply. She has a little over
200 days worth of fuel at standard velocities; and, theoretically, 68 days at
maximum velocity. This also allows her to cross the vastness of the Federated
Suns and reach her destination combat ready. Extended combat operations,
though, are another matter. The Dawn's total lack of offensive energy weapons
leaves her vulnerable to being completely disarmed after multiple engagements,
or after a single extended engagement.

Hmmm....

And mine's even heavier. I just took a Feng Huang and added a touch (well...) more to get the armor good for a 4/6.

Well I would say on the weight limit keep it with in the normal range of canon tonnage for cruisers or you can go lower.

Say 850,000 tons

I am working on the others...just need to get some more ideas for them. (aka more reading. )

Hey Karagin, did you edit this number in? I don't remember seeing it when you first answered with "heavy cruiser size." I purposely didn't check the thread again, because I wanted to see what I could come up with before seeing someone else's.

Hence the "Heavy Cruiser" designation

I didn't see a weight limit in the original post, so I went with a Heavy, very Heavy Cruiser.

As for the second message saying 850 tons based on keeping it within the canon tonnage, the Feng Huang Heavy Cruiser is 970 tons, and as that was how I made my tonnage choice for my Heavy Cruiser (looking at canon tonnages) before the second message was posted he'll have to accept it

Anyone, enough being a lata

If all would note Star Raven's question of a weight tonnage, I answered it and then edited the main post to refelct the weight limit.

Thought I got it in before anyone had posted it.

You did get it in before anyone posted a design. If that's the important part, and if it's really that big of a thing, I suppose I could work up a lighter version. But I never did see the weight limit, till I saw Vagabond's mention that Ralgith's design was overweight. And I'd already finished the design by then. So, should I just leave it as is? Or is the tonnage really that important?

By the way, Vagabond, I noticed that you don't have an L-F battery in this design, or in your Cataphract. Why is that? Don't you think it puts them at a disadvantage?

Edit: And this isn't quite on topic, but what crackpot decided that L-F batteries and DropShip docking points should be the primary determinants of cost? I can maybe see the L-F batteries, since they're expensive. But docking rings? I've got a 2,500,000 ton ship, which costs me barely 9 billion c-bills without docking rings. And it costs 16 billion with the addition of three docking rings.

cost was the very reason i dropped the L-F Batteries.

As for the reason that hardpoints boost the cost so much, it is do to the fact that each hard point requires a boom structure that intergrates the dropship into the jumpships fold field. if you were to jump without one or with one damaged, you would destroy the dropship and likely end up intergrating the crew into the ships twisted hull. It is delicate, costly, equipment.

Cost? I geuss that works. I tend to use L-F batteries because of the strategic flexibility. Especially with the layout of the FedSuns (most of my WarShips are fluffed as FedSuns), moving long distances quickly is a big asset. So is the ability to jump away from a bad situation, without waiting to charge your drives. Of course, a larger ship can lose 100,000 tons or more to the damn things, but I still tend to think they're worth it, expense and all.

Delicate and costly equipment, eh? I suppose so. Perhaps it's just that my mental image of docking rings is off. I never really saw them as overly complex, and even reading otherwise doesn't change the old mental image. Hell, I still see a bird-legged, Puma-like 'Mech whenever anyone mentions a Blackjack, even though I know it doesn't look like that. And I still see a bunch of Calamari cruiser-like ships whenever I read an Honor Harrington book, despite the fact that they look nothing like that, and I know they don't.

Anyways, I think I've rambled enough. This is what happens when you're up till the wee hours of the morning.

OKay for this one I will let the larger tonnage vessels stay. They can be Archer-Bs for the logical next step thing etc...

BUT the ships can't be any bigger then 950,000 tons. I would pefer them to be the given weight above in the thread though.
