This one is more clear-cut, at least for me, so without much further ado:

The Firestarter has never caught on with me. Sure, it is both specialised (incendiary ‘mech) and versatile, if seen in the context of a Wasp. However, we never really played scenarios (despite me always using forces that fit a given fluff). And when we played, we often didn’t use the rules for fire, and never the rules for smoke. As such, this design is really just an inefficient (despite being slightly more powerful and beefier) alternative to a 20-tonner.

The Jenner is beautiful. As fast as the quickest. As dangerous as it gets. Just make sure you move a lot with this one, it still has the armour of a Locust. But again, it is almost as fast, too. And has up to 5 times the firepower, depending on range. And remember, most of us consider the Locust an excellent ‘mech! I personally use those JJ to get out of tight situations once I’m overheating (and I will be). A very nice ‘mech to use.

The Ostscout is a fluffier Spider. But actually much more likable, because it relinquishes any pretence as to be a fighting machine. It gives up half of the other design’s firepower again, leaving it with a pitiful ML. Truly, this is a scout. Or a spotter (in case, see Firestarter, you don’t play scenarios). Quite nice, and very untouchable, with its speed and (compared to the Spider) relatively good armour.

Well, Kurita has definitely nailed this weight class. The Panther is such a *drool* ‘mech. Forget the Wolfhound. I can use bigger ‘mechs to go light-mech hunting. But this is the best support a main battle line can get out of the light ‘mech class. Oh, Panthers have given me so much invaluable support so many times, I’ve totally lost count. I won’t go any further into this, I’m open for all discussion, but suffice to say, it took such a brilliant design to take my vote away from the Jenner. So: Panther for me!

Jenner!

Actually I like the Puma and Wolfhound also. ( Modified of course.)

I'm going for the panther. It's not fast but its a solid mech with good firepower.

It's also my chosen ride here in the forums.

Firestarter for it's ability to fill multiple roles in a merc outfit...

I went for the Firestarter. It's highly mobile, carries enough armor to take a few hits and stay in the game, and carries a nice weapons loadout. The flamers make is perfect for urban warfare in my opinion, or for operating in a forested environment. I've used incendiary tactics to force an enemy out of his heavy woods cover more times than I can count....mostly because it almost always works

The Panther earns an honorable mention; it's got it's limits, but overall it's one of my favorite 'mechs to use.

I chose Firestarter. It was the 2nd mech I ever piloted and I liked it then as I like it now. Of course I know the fire and smoke rules now so I can use it more effectively. Also the twin medium lasers and MG's aren't pop guns. Add the dececnt armor and good movement prfile and I'll take this design over the others. Jenner would be my runner up. Panthers are tough to take down but take an arm off and they are nearly toothless.

The Jenner is most useful to me. I really like that speed in a light mech. They're usually trying to get backshots while something heavier keeps the enemy occupied.

Jenner all the way. It was my favorite light 'mech in the original Mechwarrior. I remember running straight for the enemy base (nestled behind a hill), jumping over the hill, and capturing the base before the defender could get off a shot. While not really applicable to CBT, that's why the Jenner is my favorite 35-tonner of all time.

I used to use a Locust almost all the time on that game. I'd use my lance mates to draw fire and I'd run around behind the enemies and tear their legs off with my MG's. It almost always worked. I took my Locust, 2 Shadow Hawks and a Battlemaster on the final mission. I lost one hawk but I got most of the kills.

Ask DarkAdder, or Technomancer, Silverghost, or the host of other players who've played me.

The Panther is my mech. Its a capable long range sparing mech, it can slow down a city fight so much by careful use of its jets and PPC. About the only thing it doesn't do is my laundry in my books.

Sure it has bad points. Its slow for a light mech, its okay with one of these you have a couple million you would have spent otherwise on a medium mech to spare for another light to do your scouting for you.

the panther for me is a very reliable and tough design and so long as you dont expect it to slug it out with the heavies it will serve you well everytime and still walk home
