Seeing as my weight-oriented polls for 3025 weren’t all too unsuccessful, I will now move onto the weight classes that feature 4 different designs. Once again, as a reminder: in this poll, variants are NOT taken into account. And I’m looking at the original TRO, the best one ever!
Which brings me to the 30-tonners. Actually, this is a toughie. Because there are quite a few famous designs in it. And because I actually don’t use any of them regularly.
The Javelin has the armour of a ‘mech about 2/3rds of its weight. But also that speed. And very heavy firepower (in 3025, 2 SRM6s are nothing to be laughed at). And unless you are into campaigns, the ammo will last you, too. Really a jumping Commando, and it looks really, really good. But, I don’t know, I don’t use it very often. (I am also fond of its variant, who isn’t, but that is no factor here!)
The Spider is a gimmick. Jumps around, being a pest. I loved it at first, everyone would with that movement profile. The model looks really wonderful, too. But these days, I’ve decided that this really ain’t a ‘mech. It is a cartoon put into BT universe…. And really, you will find that a lot of people who like this design bash on the Assassin, not realising that that design is either similar or superior. And seems much more like a ‘mech.
The Urbie…. We all love it, don’t we. Honestly, I really like it. Noone shoots at it! And it can actually really hurt. Try not to move at all (ie, deploy carefully), cause it isn’t like you’d get anywhere! And those 10 10-damage shots have gotta make a difference.
When first reading this volume, I despised the Valkyrie. The Urbie was cool with its non-movement. But the Valkyrie couldn’t decide whether to be a Wasp or a Panther! These days I look on the design much more kindly. It is cool for 3025 (I really wouldn’t appreciate it when facing Clanners), I gotta say that, these days I’m an avid fan of the Hornet! It has the Urbie’s armour. It is fairly quick. And it has the best range out of any of the light ‘mechs found in 3025. And so, my favourite 30-tonner in 3025 is: the Urbanmech!!!! (only *slightly* subjective)

For once, i'll stray from my mania about solid mechs and go for the Javelin.

I went for the Javelin....although the Spider tempted me I've scored more engine hits with the Javelin's SRMs than I can remember.

I had a hard time picking between the UrbanMech and the Javelin. But I ended up voting for the Javelin. Good movement and jumping abilities, plus heavy firepower potential. But, it has ammo dependancy problems and light armor. 2 things you don't want to see in a mech pounder. Yeah the Valk and Urbie have farther reaching weapons and the Spider is faster. But I have had great success with the Javelin and I'll stick to it. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

anyone who underestimates the urbanmech hasn't faced a lance of them as part of a larger base defense. On frontiers mux my team once fielded 5 urbanmechs plus a lot of new tech and we made so many kills it was frightening. The only drawback to it was that it's SLOW as molasses and if the base doesn't have some cover to return to reload your in trouble

Nothing is better designed? I like Urbies, don't get me wrong. But They have to run just to turn around. Any level 3 building becomes an impassible wall. Only problem with Urbies is they are almost horrible anywhere but in a city. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?
