Before I continue with my postings, I feel that I should inform you all that I have never actually played a game of CBT. My love of Battletech stems entirely from my childhood, playing The Crescent Hawk's Inception, The Crescent Hawk's Revenge, and Mechwarrior (not the RPG, the computer game). Most of my knowledge about the battletech universe comes from my collection of novels, my knowledge of the rules are pieced together from the smattering of sourcebooks and TROs I possess, and my experience for designing and customizing 'mechs comes primarily from playing Mechwarrior 2 and Mechwarrior 3.

That being said, I have no copy of any rules for Battle Armor, and the following designs were made mostly from common sense (with the help of the Battle Armor Forge).

The Commando Exo-Suit is designed to provide high mobility and firepower in a lightweight and affordable package, while still maintaining reconnaisance and stealth capabilities. There are two versions of the Exo-Suit, the Standard Assault version, and a supporting Ammunition Carrier. To keep weight to a minimum, each Assault suit carries only 50 bursts for its arm-mounted Machine Gun. In an extended firefight or campaign, this ammo load is often insuffecient. So, every third suit in a squad is designated as an Ammunition Carrier. The Ammunition Carrier has its Machine Gun removed, replaced with a standard AP Weapons Mount. With the saved weight, the Carrier can transport up to 60kg of spare ammunition in an armored shell on its back.

If any of the systems seem out of place, its probably because I didn't actually know what it did, but included them because they sounded like a good idea.

That's exactly how I started out. Games, novels, then CBT. I still have only a small number of real games to my credit.

I'm not sure if you've seen it before, but if you haven't, I'd suggest you take a look at Mega Mek. It's essentially a computerized CBT. Not everything is in it yet, but it's moving along.

As for the armor suit, it doesn't look too bad. I don't think it will fare well if detected and put up against real battle armor, but it looks good enough for its job.

That's good to know. I was afraid it would be hard to break into such an entrenched community. I'm trying to get into 1E AD&D, and I keep feeling like a 10-year-old trying to understand daddy's finances. EGG this and Mentzer that...

I'll be sure to check it out.

Of course it wouldn't last long. It's not ACTUAL battle armor, and it's not intended to stand and fight. Lightning raids are the key to this suit's success. It has neither the armor or ammuntion for drawn out battles, but it has plenty of speed, and its firepower is certainly sufficient to overwhelm the rifle-and-grenade armed guards common in the Inner Sphere.

I didn't notice the speed; that should help since I don't think most battle armor is that fast (I haven't really got them memorized). I was thinking of how it would rule against you average rifle armed guards, but somehow I managed not to type it.

That looks like a pretty decent suit (though i admit to not knowing much... if anything.. about the battlearmour rules).

Would be interesting if you could write some fluff about how it gets its high ground speed.. maybe a system similar to heavy gear? No wait.. that sounds dumb for a commando suit...

As for megamek.. check it out here..

I...really don't know. How fast do Elementals move? How do they move as fast as they do?

Elementals move at 1 in CBT scale.. about a third of yours. They can jump 90 metres though. (that's 3 hexes in CBT).

The ground speed's the same as foot infantry..

Maybe the Exo-Suit doesn't run so much as...bound? Maybe in a fasion similar to Heinlen's power armor? They bound on open terrain (a full 3mp), and run (with 1mp) when in more confined spaces?

That's a good idea.. i'm sure you can write up some fluff to go with that. maybe the jumpjets can be used in a limited fashion during normal movement..

Okay then. Here goes.

OVERVIEW
The Exo-Suit project was started by the Davion New Avalon Institute of Science as a sort of test bed for new technologies and manufacturing techniques some time in the early 3050s. Their first design, the Marine Combat Armor, was a resounding success among dropship marines and boarding parties.

Their next challenge was to come up with an exo-suit capable of operating well over land. After years of testing and refinement, the resulting suit, ingloriously called the Commando Exo-Suit, was finished.

CAPABILITIES
The Commando Exo-Suit, or CES, is one of the fastest suits of Power Armor ever produced, thanks almost entirely to its revolutionary method of locomotion: instead of simply walking or running, it bounds. In open terrain this "moonwalking" allows the CES to travel at an astonishing 32KPH. In confined spaces like building interiors, rubble, and particularly dense forests however, the suit's land speed is greatly reduced, to that of an average infantryman.

There are actually two versions of the CES: the standard Assaulter, and the more utilitarian Ammunition Carrier. Since weight had to be kept to a minimum, each suit was only given 500 rounds for their arm-mounted Machine Gun, or the equivalent of 50 10-round bursts. Testing showed that this ammunition load was often insufficient, especially for extended firefights or long deployments away from friendly supply bases.
So, a complimentary refit was designed, turning one out of every three suits into a designated ammo carrier. The Ammunition Carrier drops the Machine Gun in favor of a standard Anti-Personnel Weapons Mount. The weight saved can then be used to transport up to 60KG of ammunition, contained inside of an armored shell on the suit's back.

All suits are equipped with enhanced detection systems, such a Heat Sensors and Untrasonic Detectors. They also come with a White Noise Generator, to help keep from being detected themselves.

DEPLOYMENT
Shakedown deployment has been, for the most part, successful, with the majority of deployed units going to the Davion "Rabid Foxes" and Steiner "Loki" special operations groups. A select few have been given to the Kell Hounds, as well as the Grey Death Legion. There are also unconfirmed reports of the suits deployment by Kuritan DEST teams, although how the Combine could steal such a new and secret design remains a mystery. Why the Coordinator would not simply ask for the designs, especially in this climate of unprecedented cooperation and friendship, also remains unknown.

Fluffy enough?

Very nice. I tend to be almost as fanatical about fluff as Erenon - a design without any fluff at all is just so many numbers and strange-looking words.

You're right about the fluff fanaticism.
I've rated custom mechs poorly simply caused there wasn't any fluff

That's a very good background there warhammer.
