Vehicle construction forge

the patch

A brand new program created by an aussie dude residing at the solaris7 boards. The VCF is a very cool vehicle design program that is both easy to use and quick to pickup. Cain "Mondred" Arthur, the man behind the program, has spent several months in developing the proggie and has reached the stage where he can finally release it almost bug free.

Bear in mind, there arent many new promising programmers designing stuff for BT, so kudos to this guy and show him some support. Who knows 1 day he might develop more CBT related software.

Just tried it, very nicely presented editor and also very functional. Definatley worth getting this if you don't have HMvehicles (like me). Because good freeware vehicle editors are very hard to come by, its quick and easy to use and all the available information is presented on screen or easily accessible.

Any chance of adding it to the downloads
page?

P.S thanks for the link Bladewind

That's pretty good. Far superior to the Vehicle Factory, which I've been stuck with. It doesn't output text yet, but the HTML output looks very well done.

Vehicle Factory is ancient. And since Cord Awtry I do not know anyone that did a vehcile program. There was a 2-3 gap after he got yanked nothing was available. Glad if did it and helps poor students but I will pay to have mine. Plus it is 'legal" at tournements.

It's definitely a solid vehicle design program. It's a shame there's no level three stuff, but becides that it's got everything you'll need. Easy to use too.

bleh, the program is still in its late beta stages. Give him more time and of course if there are any bugs, dont hesitate to mention it in this thread. i will feedback to cain and he might work something out.

Making it MM compatible, might not happen soon. If the response to his program is good, i can suggest to himto modify VCF so the prog can print out XML files that MM reads, and make everyone happy .

Lastly, spread the word folks, show this guy that there are still BT fans out there and who will support his works!

You asked for it. I haven't seen any errors in the way it actually deals with making a vehicle, but I don't have much experience making vehicles, so I wouldn't necessarily notice such.

-When you save a file, it takes the name of your vehicle, and makes that the file name. (both .vff and .htm) But it also adds a space to the end, which makes little difference but is kind of annoying.

-I'm not quite sure what's happening, but there's weirdness where the armor is concerned. I load up a hover with 125 pts of FF armor, all of which have been allocated - and it tells me that there's 97 pts remaining. Changing each location's armor by -1, then +1 does make it read right, but it's not getting it right the first time. The same problem comes up with the other things I load. I haven't tested it thoroughly enough to do more than notice it being wrong. (Don't know how it's wrong.)

ah the annoying armor points bug.
its a well known bug and Cain is trying to fix as we speak.

there is another bug is the negative armor value bug which can almost screw up the whole design. So be gentle guys.

I'm not sure if he knows about this one or not, but there's some problem in the way it makes hovercraft. When I export my hovercraft to html and put a calculator to it, I don't get the right tonnage. In fact, I've gotten at least two different tonnages for the same design. Neither weighs the full 50 tons, but the program reads them both as such. I've also got a 24.5 tonner with the same problem.

Edit:
Almost forgot. The damage graph counts an SRM as causing one damage. So 3 Streak 2s give me 6 damage, instead of twelve.

Maybe I'm just sleepless adns tupid right now. But it seems I can't place my ammo in say the body, and my weapons in the turret. I might not be seeing a button. Someone else check this.

Not a problem I've had. Ammo seems to work perfectly. Next to the add weapon button, there's a list of ammo amounts you can choose for the selected weapon. Or, once you've added the weapon, you can double click on it, and it will give you an ammo screen. It doesn't even let you choose where ammo goes; it's listed along with the weapon on the weapons list, but it automatically goes into the body.

Is this guy's (Cain) email address in with the program? (I don't remember if it is or not.)

I don't see any likely cause, but the program seems to freeze on occasion when opening files, and has to be ended from task manager.
