Overview:
Designed as a long ranged strike craft, Steel Wind is one of Michaelson Heavy Industries new heavy VTOL design. Although not as swift as their Cavalry VTOL, its serves a different purpose while at the same time complements the Cavalry.

Capabilities:
Mounting 4.5 tons of Ferro Fibrous armor gives the Steelwind plenty of stamina. The VTOL is capable of taking a direct hit from a PPC in any location except its rotors, a very remarkable feat for most VTOLs, the Steelwind basic tougness has become very popular among the crew that she serves.

The bulk of Steelwind's firepower comes from 4 Holly LRM 5 racks which offers great tactical flexibility and lets the SteelWind fire the opening shots. A full volley of 20 missiles is certainly enough to make most Light mechs and vehicle to turn tail and escape especially if they can't hit back at the Steelwind at all. 2 tons of ammo supply the launchers giving the VTOL sufficient ammunition for short missions. Dual 20mm Gatling guns mounted on the nose with a ton of ammo serve as the Steelwind secondary armament. Although strictly a defensive weapon, there were reports of daredevil pilots who sometimes dive the VTOL above enemy infantry units and strafe them with the twin machine guns. A further proof to the VTOL excellent protection and a tactic feared by many Chaos March infantry.

Engagement tactics remain similar to the Cavalry. "Hit em hard and fast" are the common phrases spoken from Michaelson executives. Michaelson also have drawn up several tactics for using a mixed lance of Cavalry and Steelwind VTOLs. A popular tactic includes softening the enemy with a constant barrage of LRMs and if the enemy attempts to close in, the swifter Cavalry will engage them with SRMs while using its high agility to avoid damage. Another variation is use the Steelwind to lure enemy mechs and vehicles into wooded areas, once withnin range the Cavalry would the unload its Inferno SRM ammuntion into the woods and start a massive inferno that will spell doom to any unit in it. Already the Cavalry is notorious for this tactic and the newer engagement tactic makes it even deadlier.

Deployment:
Like its lighter and shorter range brother the Cavalry, the SteelWind is still too new to see regular service in the AFFC but both have proven their worth many times over in the fields of the Chaos March.
