Nicely executed concept, the mix of weapons reduces its vulnerabilities and the CASE are useful in campaign situations. You know that CASE isn't going to do this 'mech too much good; the XL engine is still going to go in any ammo explosion. _________________ "The enemy's gate is down."

But you can repair it cheaply, unlike a mech that's been completely destroyed.

Cheaply?
Only if you think replacing an XL engine counts as cheap. For the price of repairing an Albatross with one of it's side torsos shot out you could probably buy a couple AS7-Ks. _________________ "The enemy's gate is down."

I wont count an XL engine mech as cheap.
most XL engine assualts go up to the 20- 25 million C-bill range. i can buy 2 standard engine assualt mechs and a whole lot of spares.

I said campaign, i never said you could repair the mech but at least the internals and the pilot are still alive and there are parts worth salvaging. Its ahead thinking on the part of the designers to lessen the blow when ammo does go up, not a sure way of keeping the mech intact.
I would agree that XL's are too expensive and shouldn't be used in the first place. But i was making good of a bad situation. Plus the mech is dynamite in battle anyway.

The armor's too thin. Against something like a Banshee or a Devastator this 'mech doesn't stand a chance. _________________ "The enemy's gate is down."

Umm..you need a calculator. The AS7-K costs 22,392,000, the ALB-3U costs 25,493,651. The engine would cost 9.7 million (rounded up) and weapons plus ammo and structure would put the repair bill at just over 10 million. You could repair the ALB-3U twicee for the cost of ONE AS7-K.

Sorry, I meant the AS7-D. Got my letters mixed up. An AS7-D runs about nine million. _________________ "The enemy's gate is down."

It's not destroyed. Good techs can still repair it. Now if the center torso was annihilated...

AS7-D runs 10.3 million. So to repair the ALB-3U's side torso would cost you an Atlas. LOL. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

I never said anything about repairing it.
XL's are only really useful on medium mechs or clanners. The Chimera and Bushwackers are excellent mechs. I think the reasoning behind an XL is the extra weapons, armour and speed should protect it from harm more than just a conventional engine. Plus, the Albatross is built for support and offcentre combat. It is supposed to operate with other mechs like an Atlas which will take the brunt of the assualt, the enemy forget that the Albatross has just as much weapons.
At least, thats what i gathered,

Another thing about the Albatross; they are intended for Marik's Knights of the Inner Sphere unit. As far as I know the ALB-3U's are not for general sale or distribution. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?
