Overview:
Now safely relocated at Arc-Royal, Clan Wolf in Exile needed a
new multi-role heavy battlemech design. After sifting through the
blueprints of Summoners, Timberwolfs and HellBringers, Clan Wolf in Exile
concluded that all this Omnimechs are way out of its grasp for now.
Instead they focus on the uninspiring Grizzily Battlemech design which
was the mainstay of Clan Ghost Bear for a long time. Never a popular design
in Ghost Bear, the Grizzly had all what Clan Wolf in Exile needed, a
"Jack of all trades" but easy on the pockets. Production was quick
due to the fact Clan Wolf in Exile had a single working Grizzly.
After modifying the loadouts and catering the mech to their own
needs, the Garou was ready to roll off the production line within 8
months. And costing less than 8.5 million C-Bills.
Capabilities:
The Garou has only a sole purpose in mind. A multi-role mech that
works well on defence and attack. Its certainly a no-frills
production, no fancy toys and certainly not for looks. But it looks
solid and rugged, just like the Grizzly it based on. The Garou keeps
the same low top speed of the Grizzly while being an additional 5
tons heavier. It has lost the Jumpjets as well, but Clan Wolf isnt
too worry about that.
Boasting exactly 12 tons of Ferro-Fibrous armor, which is the maximum
mech of its class can carry, the Garou has some serious staying power on
the field. Equipped with the same standard engine found on the
Grizzly gives it more reliability and alot cheaper when compared to
its cousins like the Summoner, Timberwolf and Hellbringers.
Endo-steel construction was used on the chassis to let the mech carry
its enormous energy based loadout.
The focus of the Garou's firepower its twin Ripper Series ERPPCs.
Capable of hitting great distances, the ERPPCs gives the Garou its
main bite. Backing up the ERPPCs is a single Kolibri Delta Large
Pulse laser. Although lacking the punch of a standard ER Laser, its
accuracy is a serious bonus and enables the Battlemech to quickly
riddle away at the enemy as he approaches. Providing the brunt of its
close range firepower is a quad of 4 Model V Heavy medium lasers.
Although the heat generated is extremely high from firing 4 medium
heavy lasers, for some its more than worth it.
Clearly not an alpha strike mech, this mech is designed for
firing in groups. The designers added sufficient double strength
freezers to ensure that heat will not be a problem when the 4 Heavy
mediums and 2 ERPPCs are fired on their own. The heat capacity is
also enough for the mech to fire either 1 of the combinations with
the large pulse lasers.
While a hot mech, Clan Wolf in Exile felt that the potential savings in
the long run without the use of ammunition based systems is more of a
better advantage for now, while they are still rebuilding at least.
Deployment:
A large portion are used to protect Clan Wolf in Exile's
installions and general patrol. A few of this mechs have landed up in
Knell Hound units and it expected more might arrive.
Battle History:
Currently none. But its believed a star of this mech had
previously engaged combat with unknown raiders, Clan Wolf in exile
refused to comment thus sources aren't able to confirm.
