==Overview:==
When Curtiss Industries went from making water purification equipment to
making mechs, many viewed it as a stretch. Surprisingly enough, however, it
was less of a stretch than some knew.
Recent discoveries within the company's archives have proven that at one
point in time, the company used to make military hovercraft. For whatever
reason, the company was forced to stop making military-grade hovercraft (most
likely the lack of technology) and instead began to focus on civilian
hovercraft. In the process, the company diversified; ultimately, the decision
was made to focus solely on water purification equipment as that was the only
real money-maker for the company. With the discoveries made in the archives,
however, the company has decided to go back to making the hovercraft.
==Capabilities:==
The Lightning was originally designed as a fast-attack craft capable of
getting in, striking the target, and retreating. As such, the decision was
made to focus on this aspect and improve it.
Most of the unit's punch comes from a pair of one-shot SRM 4 launchers.
Over the years, the technology of one-shot weapons has improved, providing a
considerable weight savings. This weight savings was sufficient to add a
turret to the vehicle. In this turret was added a pair of small lasers and a
machine gun to deal with armored infantry, something that was unheard of when
the Lightning was first developed.
A surprise advantage of this redesign came in the form of a little bit of
extra space behind the operator bay. The decision was made to design this
space into a small cargo bay, allowing the crew to have a little extra space,
or possibly carry some more gear with them.
