Alright, so one of the perks tanks get is that ballistic and missile weaponry does not add heat to the vehicle like energy weapons would. You don't need HS to sink the heat of an LRM-5 or an AC/20.
That's a pretty significant difference between Mechs and tanks.
Another pretty significant one is that tanks are more fragile than 'Mechs.
Working under the assumption that the heat effect is caused by the construction that causes the fragility, I present the following for your amusement and review:
What about 'Mechs who also don't have to pay for the heat of their ballistic and missile weapons? Naturally, they'd be more fragile.
How precisely is not very straightforward. Adding a crit chance to a result of 12 on the to-hit table isn't too significant compared to the effect on a tank.
And dropping an MP every single time the legs are hit is quite a bit rougher than the -1 MP effect on tanks.
So, rather than break my skull over trying to figure that one out, what do you all think? The no heat thing would definitely benefit 'Mechs such as the Archer, and 'Mechs with a hefty set of AC20's or AC10's.
Cool idea? Dumb idea? Anyone inspired by this to present a cooler idea? Fire away.
