------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
Faced with the superior range and firepower of the Clan invaders, the
Steiner military wanted a light, fast 'Mech with superior long-range
firepower. Many design firms offered plans featuring LRM racks and PPC's, but
the contract went to Coventry Metal Works.
Their design, tagged the BZK-F3 Hollander, eliminated the heat buildup
from PPC's and the danger of ammo explosion inherent in LRMs by mounting the
massive Poland Main Model A Gauss cannon in the 'Mechs's right torso. This
unorthodox design would provide unprecedented firepower in a light 'Mech,
enough to take down other light 'Mechs in one shot.
==Capabilities:==
Intended to engage light and medium 'Mechs at extreme range and eliminate
them quickly, the Hollander mounts a single Gauss cannon around which the
entire 'Mech is built. The Gauss cannon provides devastating firepower and
range but also poses some inherent design limitations.
The Gauss cannon is so heavy that the designers had to remove to many
components to get the design to work. This doomed the Hollander to a short
production run and limited field time. Recently the military has begun
modifying those Hollanders still mounting Gauss Rifles to serve as long range
support units. Coventry Metal Works has removed the heavy Gauss and slightly
modified the already existent weapon mounts to accept a more cumbersome Arrow
IV artillery launcher. This launcher is linked to a two ton ammo store and
allows the lightly armored and slow moving light over a minute of fire support
from the safety of distance and follow fire support units. This reasonable
modification may give new breath to a unit long seen as doomed.

The Gauss cannon is so heavy that the design proved outmatched and
quickly destroyed in the field. The Lyran high command in a desperate attempt
to recoup its finical looses began selling dozens of BZK-F3s on the open
market. Several found there way into the hands of Mercenaries working for the
FWL. These units quickly upgraded there Hollanders by removing the Poland
Gauss cannon and replaced with the lighter Corean Light Gauss cannon which
allowed for an additional two tons of armor and the addition of two medium
lasers. In one swift motion these Mercs turned a weak design into a notable
front line fighter on par with the Steiner Wolfhound and Kurita Panther.

I'm no friend of the Light Gauss, but it could be a useful Hollander. At least it got some backup weapons out of the deal.
The Arrow IV variant is at first glance insane. You'd need some pretty desperate pilots to go out in those, and it's still just a light mech. Closer inspection shows an affordable Arrow IV vehicle that can keep up with your heavy mechs. Anyone who screws up gets to provide fire support for the next campaign.

Good mods.
THe light gauss version's a good long range light support mech. The extra armour and medium lasers makes it pretty viable up close too.
The Arrow IV mod is really a tactical bonus. Light, simple, mobile and low cost artillery.

REmember the Hollander has those odd shaped legs that are built for handling the recoil for the Gauss. This chassis was designed to be light and able to withstand heavy recoil forces.

Didn't they tell you? "Endo-Steel" is a euphemism for "cheetos." That's why ES is lighter but takes up more space. (the puffy kind of cheetos here.) These cheetos are the secret of Clan BattleMech superiority. And next episode, we will delve into another of man-kind's greatest secrets: Ferro Fibrous armor. You'll never guess what that's made of.

Is that why the Hollander stinks??? And I thought it was just beacuse of it's ammo dependency and lack of a Backup weapon.... Silly me.....
