I just made Sergeant Major, so I'm buying drinks for all those NCOs out there who are underpayed, underappreciated, and underestimated.
To the NCO, without whom the army would be a bunch of wet-behind-the-ears LTs leading a bunch of wet-behind-the-ears privates.
To the NCO who runs the army, (don't tell the officers..."

Don't forget the corporals and sergeants who help the senior NCO's run the place

Corporals don't help run it, they are the ones that gets the work done.
NCO's run it.
Officers think they run it.

That's very true.. i was (am.. reservist.. sorta like national guard) a corporal in our army and we did all the work..

My dad was a LTC in the US army when he retired in '92. Even then, he swore by his Sergeants and Captains.
I can't speak for the corporals.

I was a Lance Corporal In the British Army serving with the Royal Engineers. Served In the Falklands Conflict and 2 tours of Northern Ireland and believe me it was the Sergeant Majors and below who were the Army. Listen to the Ruperts and their stupid orders, smile nicely, say yes sir, then go back to your men and tell them to do something completely different. Let the Ruperts take the credit and We take the satisfaction.

I'm a Master Corporal in the Canuck Army (Reserve), which is equivalent to an E-5. In my unit I ran a troop (Platoon) of Armoured soldiers for the last year (although I was technically only supposed to be 3rd in command. )
