==Overview:==
This unit here represents one of many generic types of civilian (or
sometimes civil government) utility boats that you might see on the waters.
While the armor might seem like much for such a ship, the decision was made to
give it protection against collisions which can sometimes happen at sea.
The ship was designed to make it versatile enough for any sort of
civilian work yet hardy enough for use by civilian governments while still
being cheap all around.

For my campaign, I decided to add an extra mission before the party gets all involved with everything.
The characters will be sent to recon out a possible convoy route (the two Archipelago maps from Map Set #7). Along the way, one of these boats will show up. When the party challenges it, all they will see at first (unless they have a Probe) will be something covered with a tarp. If the party persists in challenging the crew, the tarp will be removed to reveal an SRM 2.

Exactly how many boats can you think of that have a cruise speed over 100mph?

if ur campaigns late enough in the timeline, use rocket launchers instead of an srm. at it weight and armor, you'll get far better performance from rockets.

Unfortunately, that's one of the game's weaknesses. At the light end of the vehicle spectrum, the engine tonnages and suspension factors are such that you can easily slap on powerful engines and still have the same engine rating as a weak one.

Did I ever give you the light vehicle construction rules that I found on the internet? They're pretty good for handling smaller vehicles like this (no more 1 to motorcycles that do Mach 3 on the ground) . It seems consistent with the rest of the Battletech rules.
Barring that, you can voluntarily take a smaller engine, or reduce the speed output (say that the higher speed is actually just higher torque, for more cargo hauling capacity). The Abrahms tank actually would go a lot faster with the engine it has if they didn't step down the power (the reduction gearbox is actually bigger than the engine itself), but the tank simply couldn't handle that much speed. The same could be said about this vehicle... maybe it has a governor installed to prevent accidents that happen at higher speeds

It's possible. It's only going to be appearing once or twice, so it's not a real concern.

| Actualy it is 100 KILOMETERS per hour( Actualy 108) which translates to closer to 62 mph using the 108 kph figure you got 67 mph or 57.77 knots, and quite a few small craft can do that.

Its maximum cruise speed is 162KPH, if my math is correct that's just over 100MPH.

|
| 162 is maximum speed NOT maximum cruise 100.66 mph 87.5 kts. The Cigarette Boats AKA Stilettos that the Drug runners use in the Caribbean achieve those speeds and higher.

In Battletech there is no difference, the boat goes 10-15 and that 15mp is over 100MPH.
Like I said, find me a boat that carries cargo and goes 100MPH.

The vessels I mentioned are used by drug runners in the Caribbean to carry up to a ton of Cocaine and/or marijuana and have been clocked at speed of up to 100kts.

I can't find one instance on the web that has a drug runner going 100mph...that would be faster then every Coast Guard vessel that I am aware of.

| Aff that is correct .That is why they are used ,it is neccessary to use aircraft to chase them down.Their main weakness is the fact that if there is any kind of chop the have a tendancy to flip and break up at top speed.

So why can't I find anything about it on the net?
