Who are the most effective commanders in battletech. In general, these people will at least have the rank of captain or higher, although there is no rank stipulation. Once we have enough nominations I'll put together a poll. Try to at least mention the unit he's from as well, if you're citing somebody obscure. If you can just list somewhere to 3-5 names each, that should pretty much cover everyone if everyone chimes in.
Here's my nominations:
1) Grayson Death Carlyle (CO: Grey Death Legion)
2) Ian McKinnon (Captain: McKinnon's Raiders, 7th Crucis Lancers)
3) Aidan Pryde (CO: Falcon Guards, Clan Jade Falcon)
4) Aleksandr Kerensky (you all know who this guy is)
5) Shiro Kurita (founder of the Kurita dynasty, first Citizen of Galedon) This guy lived in the 23rd and 24th century, but he laid the foundation of the Draconis combine, conquering scores of planets.

Wouldn't you have to add Nystul and Stackpole, errr. . . . I mean Victor Ian Steiner-Davion and Kai Allard-Liao (what is it with morons and hyphenated names?)

Major General Archer Christifori lead units loyal to Victor against the Jade Falcons when they invaded during the FedCom Civil War, and successfully repeled them. You can check out his exploits in "Operation Audacity".

He also messed around with units loyal to Katherine several times. Tied down many regiments worth i believe.

He raided the deep into the Clan Falcon occupation zone and beat The Falcon Guards at Twycross.
