Okay this question came up the other day and seeing how I am in Iraq (Mosul Iraq) and my books are about 6000 miles away in Michigan I didn't have an answer for the person...so can a battlearmor suit blow up?
Anyone know if this is mentioned in any of the books?

Ive never read about it, but Im sure it could be possible. The rules arent specific about exactly what powers battle armor, either. If its a fusion reactor, then yeah, you could blow it up just like a mech. If its a battery system, your best bet would be to detonate any unused SRMs.
This sounds more like a 'house rule' situation than anything from a rule book.

I would say that the only thing that could blow up would be unfired srms. Since they only carry what is in the launcher that is unlikely. Most likely, by the time you would worry about those going off the battle armor would already be destroyed.

Since battle Armor doesn't have criticals, there is no way for anything to blow up. You're alive, then your're dead.

Well the question came up when some one saw a picture of battlearmor getting hit and so they asked.
I didn't know for sure so I asked...not having criticals really doesnt mean something can't explode...vehicles really don't have criticals in that you hit the insides you roll and boom dead vehicle...

Read the BattleTech Companion...it has rules for making battle armor, and there is a section in it that goes into detail about battle armor (it also has a similar section for 'Me chs)...Battle Armor is powered by highly advanced batteries...fusion engines were attempted at one time by Clan Nova Cat, but a hit that would not have otherwise hinder the armor that much caused the reactor to fail and explode...they then went to batteries instead...
Battle Armor cannot explode...the ammo may be able to detonate, but not the "engine" of the armor itself...

In Max tech their's an optional critical hit rule for battlearmor. If you roll a six on the roll to determine which suit is hit, re-roll. Whatever suit is actually hit is destroyed, and the trooper inside is killed, regardless of how much damage the attack inflicted. This could account for a flamer tank being hit, and the napalm gel seeping into the suit's cracks, or a direct .50 cal or SRM hit penetrating the visor, or perhaps the elemental gets torn to pieces when his M.G. ammo or SRM rounds cook off.

Sounds like a good rule, but if I used it, Id have a batch of decimated elementals and nothing to show for it.
If Im going to loose an elemental everytime someone rolls a six, why dont I just save some cash and go with clan rifle platoons? Seems to me that theyl last ust about as long, and cost alot less.

If I hit it enough times, I can make it blow up. 
HE Rounds for my AC would do the trick...

Or what about the ol' Tandem Charge SRMs from either Unbound or the Tactical Handbook? 1 point armor damage and then 1 point IS. Should be a quick way to paste a BA trooper.

Elementals would still be a lot more effective than standard infantry. They're more mobile, do a lot more damage, and are still a lot tougher to kill off.
