Ok, quick question for folks. For some reason I can't seem to get this correct. I end up changing my calculation like once a month.
Let's say I have an Inner Sphere 'mech and am putting Ferro Fibrous armor on it. If I have 81 points of armor, how much will that weigh?
Here's the way I just switched the calculation, but I want to make sure it's right:
1) round(81 / 1.12) = 72
2) 72 / 16 = 4.5
The real question is, is that first round correct? If you don't round there, you end up with 5.0 tons for 81 points of IS Ferro.
Is this correct? My brain hurts.

Well, the calculation is meant to be done in the other direction.
base armor = 16*X, where X is the number of tons
FF armor = round(base armor *1.12)
If you want to go the other direction I would say that the algorithm you placed was right.
base = round(FF/1.12)
X = base/16
If you don't trust your calculation then do it forwards to make sure it gets the same results.

The rules say "calculate the normal number for armor points and then multiply by 1.12"...

This for your design submissions prog?
I have a chart I made that lists the totals for both IS and clan in regular and FF armor by tonnage. I also have a chart showing the maximum armor in regular and FF by mech tonnage. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

I know that's what the rules state, but that is going based off of a set tonnage. I want to know the calculation that could be used going the other way. "I have 85 points. Now how much weight is that?"

Yes, for the mech submissions page.
I could come up with charts myself, but I'd rather calculate it if there is a solid calculation that can be used. For standard it's easy working backwards. The whole problem going the other way with Ferro is the 1.12 and when you should round and which way do you round.

try not rounding...see how it works...round at the end result perhaps..it may be easier not sure of your system though. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?
