I had my wife's laptop on the internet less than 30 seconds and it caught the sasser worm...if I ever get my hands on the guy that wrote it they won't have to worry about a trial...

Who ever comes up with these worms and viruses and trojan horses needs medicine.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and these guys need about twenty pounds each to cure em....

I feel your pain... I had just nuked my hard drive from orbit (it's the only way to be sure) and as i was downloading and installing stuff again, I got the Sasser worm too 
Had to start again the process, but this time I got an antivirus and ran it through my files.. turns out my computer was a disease ridden carcass , I found half a dozen viri in my files, granted, most of them were just latent and harmless, but I'm going to be more paranoid in the future.
There's a silver lining to every cloud, though, I could retrieve my contact list from the server this time, so in that respect I'm better off

There's this extra CD full of utilities that came with a mobo. I really need to figure out how to use Norton Ghost. That would save me from a lot of grief in the future, since I'm sure I'll manage to bork my computer again at some point.
I've caught worms too, but that taught me one thing: always disconnect the router before you start formatting/installing/configuring. You want a firewall up and running before connecting to the net, period.
