Yes i am an can't wait. To be honest i was really disapointed with Civ3 when i first got it. The simplistic style got me, and the fact that you couldn't make up your own civ or choose the sex of your leader, at least without an editor. But actually getting into the game i found it played better than Civ2.
Some of the new features look really good, religion and the like. I only wish they would add more unique units. After a while it gets boring throwing Medieval infantry at pikemen. While your enemies throw their medieval infantry at your pikemen.
Still its all in all a very good and addictive series. I ordered mine off Play.com for only £17! ($10?) waiting for it to get through the post! Then you lot at mordel probobly wont hear from me till 2010.
So ill say my goodbyes to all my friends now.... oh yeah rite

£17 would be closer to $30-35

Wanallo, check out
http://www.evo-games.net
it is a great site dedicated to the CIV Francise. There is also quite a bit of good discussion about CIV IV already. I must worn you though there are some big bugs in it I got my Pre-Order copy from EB Games yesterday. It had the French Lanuage Tech Tree in it, and there is a HUGE PROBLEM with STI Video Cards and Direct X for the game. I haven't been able to get the game to run yet. I get the following Error Message when I run the game:
"The Application Failed to Start because D3DX9_26.DLL was not found. Re-Installing the application may fix this problem."
I've emailed support, and I'm still waiting to hear back. I'm gonna try a few more things when I get home from work tonight. The error that they walk through the fix for on www.civ4.com is a different error, something about the Renderer failed to initialize.

i got my copy the other day, not done a big play test yet but so far it looks fine. It looks a pretty decent game though.Im just waiting for the chance to really be able to get my teeth into it. After University lectures all day i just fancy something a bit less thoughtful. Right now its Farcry.

Its good. If you go to Evo-Games. I post there as Steiner-Davion. They reall ymessed up the Naval units. Galleys can't even leave coastal waters period. Only Caravals, and subs can move through opponent territorial waters, but they can't only carry 4 different units, and one 1 unit at a time, and they can't carry Settlers. So it is impossible to colonize other islands that are across an ocean.
Overall it is pretty good, but there are just to damn many things to build at any one time. Don't go out building lots of cities right off the bat. Build a couple then get your infrastructure going, ie roads, farms, cottages, etc... But in order to do any of that you need to have discovered the appropriate tech.

Just got round to starting a full game yesterday and i have to say i am very, very impressed with this game so far. I haven't done alot of sea travel yet so my opinion might change but overall its got much more depth and charm than three. One amazing little feature missed from 3 was when i left one of my cities undefended, with several bands of barbarians coming in. My nearest civ sent up a few units of defenders. Whats more he knew exactly where they were needed. The AI has gone on well from civ3. Which in my opinion is where it was needed. A shame about the unique units, i would prefer more for each side. Like one for each era. But no big complaints. I especially like all the different improvements.

I am a bit confused by this. Do mean to say that one of the AI opponents came to your rescue when you were being invaved by barbarians? When did this happen, what trade deals/agreements di you have?

Yes they did, and as far as i know i was only at peace with them with open borders. But the guy who saved me was friendly towards me. I had done alot of trade with him. Especially technologies and minerals, i have quite alot of bronze and Iron in my borders.

Lucky you on both accounts there. The AI comeing to save your BACON and the fact that you have tons of Iron and such. I had one Iron, 1 Copper, 1 Elephant, 1 Horse, 1 Copper and 1 Fur in my borders. Then I discovered another Copper, but it appeared after one of my Cottages became a Hamlett just turns before it was to become a Town.
But I lucked out, I had 2 Oil and 3 Uraniums within my borders. Then I grabbed another Oil from Spain, with my Overpowering Culture.
If you haven't checked it out yet, you should visit http://evo-games.net. I post over there as Steiner-Davion. We are getting ready to launch a Multiplayer PBEM called EVG01. We are also in the midst of playing what is dubbed a Succession game, called Evogamer 01, in which we all take turns playing the same game. Each player downloads the saved game file from the message board, and plays 10 turns and then posts their results and the saved game for who ever wants to play it next.
Lots of fun so far. Both of those games are under the CIV 4 Forum, under the Multiplayer Topic.
Hope to see you there.

Ive been over a few times. Will probobly register and if so ill just be plain old Wanallo. As i am everywhere.
Ok, quite a way into my first game and ive encountered my first problem. After a turn (the one straight after my save) the game seems to freeze and do nothing. Music still plays but thats as far as it gets. Ctrl, alt, del just seems to make even more of a mess as does the windows key. It comes up in the task manager as not responding. But either if i switch back to the game or try to end the task. It kills the computer and i have to reset.
Although luckily a patch is coming out this week so ill see if it deals with my problem. If not then ill see what i can do myself. Either way this is a really good game. Much more fun that three or two. It feels much more in depth and flexible yet at the same time realistic (discounting the graphics!) and fun

Where did you learn about the patch coming out this week? I haven't seen anything on it yet?
As for your bug, I suggest you register at EVO-Games and Ask around.

Yeah id be up for that for sure. I'd be interested in trying my style of play against others. I try to be as conservative as possible. Concentrating on science and culture. I try and get as far ahead as possible because when i go to war i don't have many units so they have to be good!
Checked out that site BTW Alex got an interesting community. Also Civ4 is alot better with the patch. AI is also very good.
What do you think so far Vagabond? My first impressions were so good by the time i had a few problems i was so hooked i wasn't bothered!
