I'm struck by the limited number of custom 3025 'mechs people come up with. Do most of you guys simply play in the 3050+ era, making the 3025 stuff obsolete for you? I certainly don't think the possibilities have been exhausted.

I can't find my 3025 customs yet. The stack I have here are mostly 3050+ mechs. I do have my 3025-3050 vehicles and aerospace fighter stacks. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

I just find 3025 designs less interesting to do. There just aren't as many variables you can add to the equation. Things are a bit too cut and dried in 3025 for my taste.

All of my customs are from 3055 because that is the era that I played while in college. I have not made any custom mechs now that I have started playing exclusivley in 3025. Besides that, it is easier to make the perfect munch machine in 3055.

I have a crap load of 3025 designs that I've worked on, mostly a series of house specific mechs, with some new technology I designed that is for the 3025 era. Its part of my program for redisigning the BattleTech era without having to use massively munchy technology and mechplants opening up every five seconds like some kind of divine plague.
I'd put them up, but I can't put up new weapon designs, and even if I did, I find interest in new weapon designs are limited to a very few people... so its not really worth the effort

I have tons of 3025 customs mechs...a really nice 100 tonner called the Shiva one of the first ones I built. Still have the original sheet and all the tell tale signs of how long ago that was....20 some years ago...okay I am old. Moving on...
When I get back from Iraq I will post a bunch of 3025 mechs and customs ones. Some may seem a little odd but then again fun times could be had by making a few adjustments to a mech back then.

i play 3025 yet design for 3050+ do to its many MANY variables.
i design plenty of 3025 designs, but i think the biggest problem with it is the fact that in 3025 only a dozen designs where less the 100 year old in design. most of the mechs used in 3025 are from the Star League or the first two Succession Wars. so designing a design in this era predestines it to be Star League and no longer seen in the inner sphere and your fluff will reflect this. so designing a mech is generaly moot or distorts the established universe. the only designs feesible are tanks and helos using ICE engines. however, as a general statement most people, not all, play mechs not vehicles because after all we are playing BattleTech.
even variants during this time are few and far between because engineering techniques where still limited and a good mech could very quickly be ruined by modifing it and thus unstablizing it. in a day where human pilot's life was cheeper then his mech this was a bad proposition.
just my outlook.

I always got the impression that this had produced a plethora of modifications. FASA published lots of variants on the basic designs...many of which were no doubt driven by lack of parts to maintain the original configuration. The Marik Marauder is a case in point here. Totally new designs should be rare (and should usually be cobbled together by some Tech with a bunch of spare parts who wants to be a mechwarrior), and probably inefficent, but modifications always seemed pretty common to me; maybe as many as fifteen to twenty percent of all functional 'mechs. Certainly at least 10 percent.

actually when all I had were the 3025 TRO and the box set, I came up with a storyline where someone took a repair depot, and two dropships and hobbled them together into a MechYard. required LOTS of spare parts to experiment with, and usually only produced a single mech a year, sometimes two years depending on the job. But it was a fun game. The Players got jobs scavanging for parts! They would do research into where great battles were fought, then go there to dig up parts. At first I made it really easy for them, cause we were still trying to get used to the rules, but eventually the Draconis Combine got wind and started sending false info, and warriors to fight them.
It was great

If I design something completely new it's usually 3050+. For some reason it feels better to try out new designs with level 2 tech. My 3025 designs are usually variants of existing mech, unless I'm having fun doing both a level1 and a level 2 version of the same design.
