This is just another silly question, that I couldn't find in rulebook (this time it's AT 2).

Have mech, vehicle, infantry and fighter bays some place to rest for pilots and techs? Rules don't discuss that and as commander I won't be happy if my soldiers are forced to sleep in their machines (average interplanetary trip lasts 14 days from jump point to planet, so you'll have to spend at least one month in the ship to get somewhere and maybe much more if destination is planet unsuitable for camping outside).

From the description of the Union Dropship:

" Because so much space is taken up by weapon bays and the like, the crew's quarters are spartan. The fourteen crewmen and twelve to fourteen MechWarriors and fighter pilots must cram themselves into a single, tiny bunkroom with neither viewports nor recreational facilities. The ship's two officers share another microscopic bunkroom, while the captain's private quarters take up an area just large enough to accommodate a single bed and washbasin. Sanitary facilities are extremely limited, and the air recirculation system is as small and unsophisticated as possible. Frequent breakdowns are typical, often creating an atmosphere redolent of sweat and dirty socks. "

It would seem people are forced to sleep in shifts and live in very cramped quarters on some dropships. Hey, at least the warriors will be in the mood for killing someone once they get down!

Checking out some others it would seem infantry and such are not given quarters beyond the bay they sit in. Dropship duty must be extremely popular and smelly.

Yes, but standard Union (Battlespace) has additional passenger areas for pilots and techs, Union-X (TRO 3068) has only minimum crew (12) and 3 additional officer quarters (makes no sense, according to rules it needs only 12 people on-board). With 8 mechs and 4 fighters you have additional 24 people on-board, not counting 5 BA squads. Even if all will sleep in shifts you need beds for 1/3 of all troops (for 8 hour sleeping period). If standard Union represents uncomfortable travel, what would be traveling on Union-X like?

From what I understand, dropships work like naval vessels do now. The larger ones will probably have room for each person to have a bunk, and may have sleeping facilities similar to that of a land-based barracks. Smaller ships, such as the Union mentioned above, need to use a "timeshare" system for its sleeping arrangements, and will probably have crew quarters arranged into cramped "cubby rooms" (the beds are build into the wall, and there is a very small path, about one man wide, between the two sides of the room). Such conditions are cramped, smelly, and sometimes can be quite unsanitary (depending on how well the people occupying the room maintain it).

I don't believe that mechwarriors and vehicle crews have to sleep in their machines, as the space taken by their quarters is integrated into the tonnage cost for their respective bays (a 'mech bay with a 4 'mech capacity takes up 600 tons. I don't believe that all 600 tons is dedicated to the bay itself, but a fraction is dedicated to the living facilities for the mechwarriors. A bunkroom, expanded mess facilities, a washroom, etc).

This doesn't resemble any sleeping quarters. most space in such bay will be taken by spare parts and those walls (anchor points, ...) weight something too. Why there are additional living quarters on old Union?

I believe crew quarters and such are included when you purchse the crew and the rest. Given that this is more of an RPG topic, and one that can be address with some fluff text, and not a game concern, the best bet is to go with it as part of the overall weight of the crew and officers and the rest of the ships compliment. Or you could devote extra tonage and call if crews quarters if you want.

As I recall it, with the battlespace construction rules, quarters for mechwarriors, vehicle crews, ASF pilots, techs and Astechs were added on top of crew quarters. I don't know about AT2, I haven't really read over the construction rules in there. The space dedicated to infantry is, obviously, the infantry's bunk area, equipment storage and the like. For a good non-SB, non-rulebook look at infantry quarters on a DropShip one could read the prologue to Far Country.

Well I am going by the stats that are created by HMAero when I create ships and I notice that when you add Mech .fighter,Vehicle and Small craft bays the program also allocates tonnage for Bay Personnel I assume that is living quarters for said personnel.

I would assume so. It does not require extra space under crew or anywhere for the pilots to sleep, so I'm guessing that the cubicals include quaters, maintence, ect.

It's my understanding from reading the HeavyMetal forum, that "Bay personnel" have very rudimentary quarters in the bay - rudimentary as in the equivalent of hammocks strung up in the bay.

If I've got the tonnage to burn and the fighters are important to the ship's firepower, I tend to include quarters for the pilots. But that's on WarShips. For a DropShip, it's not worth the effort, since they'll be leaving in not too long anyways.

I doubt, that sleepy and tired soldiers will vent their rage on fresh and prepared enemy. They may actually be much more happy to throw ship's crew out of their living quarters and have some rest. I hope that cargo bay has some kind of air conditioning so they may rest there. Sleeping in mech bay will be impossible if techs prepare machines for action or repair them on the way back.
