When I read TRO 3026, all those surveillance remote sensors looked really cool and hi tech to me. It seems another development foreseen in Battletech has come true

Cool stuff. First lasers, now remote sensors. They already have something similar to myomer for small uses. BT may come sooner than 2700. Although If someone built an Atlas these days the UN would ban it.

Actually, the UN would ban the Atlas, and then the US would be convinced that Iraq is building them in secret.

Dear God, Iraq has the Atlas?! THEY MUST HAVE JUMPSHIPS AND WARSHIPS TOO! We're in trouble now! Cause we all know Iraq is a super super super power from the 2800s.

Raven, sarcasm is a virtue!

That would only occur if the US or Israel tried to build one.

Either that or the UN would demand that all mechs be placed under their sole jurisdiction.

We *might* see AT or Cyclone suits in our lifetime but that's about it unless we get another major breakthrough.

Actually, I saw a program once called Mail Call. Good show. I dont know if R. Lee Ermy was ever in the military, but if I ever join up, I want a Drill Sargeant just like that.
Anyway. One person sent in an email asking about the new doodads being used by the lowly foot soldier.
cameras mouned on the rifle barrels, so the trooper can just poke his weapon around a corner and see whats their through a multi-specrum viewpiece mounted in his helmet. A vital-signgs transmitter, so that nearby medics can get instant, real-time readouts on a troopers condition. State-of-the-art navigation and GPS equipment allowing a trooper to call in artillery, air strikes, bombing runs, or all of the above. Or just help the Pizza Guy find the squad easier.
When you look at the new stuff being carried into the field, all you have to do is build a powered shell with its own independant energy and life support, and youve got at least Inner Sphere-level battle armor.
Maybe with another decade or so of R&D and stuff, and you might see battle armored infantry in the ranks of the US military.

Battle armor is one thing; but getting to where we're essentially dealing with armored mecha (even on the personal armor scale) will still be a while off.
