I recently acquired that "not-to -be-named" piece of "candy" (has the word mega in the tittle) and installed it last night. The problem is that when I tried playing a quick familiarization game I could not find anywhere to set the computer as the opponent. Can youpaly against the computer or do you have to have a human as opponent?
Please send help!

You can use the word MegaMek here. There's no problem with that. You can play the computer, but he sucks. What you have to do is start up a game as yourself. then start the program again (two instances running) and connect as the Bot. Use localhost for the server.

Thanks. I just wanted to be sure...
Thanks for the info. I will give it a try since human opponents are lacking at this moment.

There's always MegaMek.NET if you're looking for a human opponent. Download the software from the MegaMek site. (Not that I know much about it myself. I've got to figure out how to work Native Address Translatin (NAT) before I can hook my computer up through the WLAN router to actually play MegaMek against a person.)
If you're going to play the bot, don't play larger than a star or lance and try to avoid rough terrain. The bot will sometimes "lose" a 'Mech which then wanders around doing nothing for a while.

Once the current fight I am involved in is over, I am intending to GM some matches on this board or via e-mail, provided I can find willing players. I'll keep you posted.

The software is renamed MegaMekNET (no more .NET cause of microsoft bleh)
You don't need to be able to work NAT to play, only to host. So you can play anytime you want. Also shortly I will be starting an online merc campaign with me as GM and using MegaMek, probably a development snapshot. I'll post here when I'm ready

Well, I definitely need to do something else to play, but I haven't had time to look into it. (It's not exactly a high priority.) I tried viewing a few games in progress (because I suspected there would be problems) and got some error message.
