I personally really enjoyed the new mini-series...it had a few bad spots, but overall I think it retained alot of what was good with the old series, and made it alot darker and better with a more modern feel...
Anyone else seen it and care to express their thoughts?

It sucked.
I hear the ratings were very good, so odds are they'll make more.
Those will probably suck too.

Why do you say that? Just curious...

The acting was terrible.
The story was lame.
They rewrote the history of the "universe"
The took one of the most popular characters in the series and made it a chick.
Were is simply another sci-fi series it would have been OK. They tagged it "Battlestar Galactica".
For that it sucked.

Amen Brother Chihawk.....
I'm the only one in the office who said it sucked. It was a poorly written story on a good premise.
I am the oldest of who watched it and they all say that I shouldn't compare it to the Original... But why not? If it's called Battlestar Galactica, then it had better be worthy to hold the name. And this wasn't.
I got tired of the way Nukes were thrown around. I didn't like that the only Agro ship got left behind and obliterated. The have fuel, but nothing to eat... Yea, that works.....

Agreed that it could have been better...the same could be said of the original series...

The story was virtually the first third or so of the original series pilot updated and modernized, with a far better explanation of how and why the colonies fell...and with a far better method of having the survivors escape...

Other than the Cylons being created by man, not really...not in any way that really mattered...

And Dirk Benedict didn't care...the first series needed more strong female pilots that took center stage rather than just hanging on the arms of the lead characters anyways...

Tell me this...what about Galactica 1980? That was made as a sequel to the original, and it sucked worse than a hoover...

The fact of the matter is, this was the exact same overall story as the original third of the pilot of the original series...but it was better thought out, and better presented than the original could ever have hoped to be...
Now, I AM a fan of the original series...I liked it enough to spend $100 buying the DVD boxed set...but I still think this was a better series opener than the original...and I'd like to see more...

You're right, Galactica 1980 did suck...but it wasn't called Battlestar Galactica, was it? Lots of sequels suck...big deal.
I know you weren't alive to see the show when it was first aired. Trust me, there was nothing on TV like it. Did you know that the original 2 hour episode was released to theaters in 1979 and it did $16M at the box office? All that was added was 5 minutes of footage. Turn that into "2004 movie dollars" and that's $48M. Not bad for a previously broadcast TV show, eh?
They could have done so much with this current re-incarnation and they blew it. It sucked.
The fight scenes were cool, but we've seen the same effects on Vayager, et al.
It was a waste IMO, but because of the ratings we'll see more.
And if it's done the same way it'll suck too.

I spent more then that on the British version of the beta-max release. Big deal.
This version sucked.

Actually, I think it was quite good. On whole the acting was better than the original series. The story was better and the characters were as well. I came into this skeptical, but left rather pleased. My only gripes was the 'human' Cylons,, they were too human and hard to detect. I liked the Baltar and Starbuck characters the best and Olmos as Adama, a much better one than Lorne greene ever was.
The people who say it sucked are too zealous about the OS, when the new people who put together the BSG said that it should not be compared to it. The new version is not a remake, but a complete and better re-telling of the sotry.

Hell I liked it. Maybe it wasn't the original, but who cares? the original ain't goint to be reaired, and the story was fairly good.
As to the number of nukes, if you were intent on sterilizing a planet, you'd need a lot mroe then what they used. So in fact, it was unrealistic by the SMALL number of nukes used.

Star buck shoulda been a guy. Adama should have had a daughter, not a son. Star Buck and Apollo were a pair. starbuck being a hellraiser, and Lee Adama the CO's daughter?
Lee is a name to swing (or not to, depending) either way, but Starbuck, feels like a guy name.
I do agree that the cylon infiltrators should be a lot easier to detect. Not by looks, but by simple chemistry. What amazes me is that the colonials did not do research on the storm. Then they would have a weapons that could really mess up the Cylons.
If I had a diplomat/ officer over due from a hostile power, I would not be sitting around doing nothing. Big hole, especially if the fight was as close as it appeared to have gotten.
I agree that nukes are throwns around too casually. The front part of that bay should have been GONE, or a great white shark bite taken out of it, not just some buckled plates. I also wish they had stayed with lasers, or had a variety of weapons, heck they have a star drive.
I can accept that the main weapons might be Gauss cannon runing the length of the ship and need ammo, but the AMS systems should have been lasers.
They could have done a better job with the gratuitous bonking tho', strictly high school level at best.
I still liked it, it is a better waste of time than Friends.

The planetary nukes were okay, the cylons are probably immune to most radiation that would kill humans and only want the planets for the inhabitants (destroy the human infestation) anyway. A robot would probably prefer space, there are factors that would make sense to something that ran of something other than food and air.

There were some good things to it. The Vipers, James Edward Olmos was a much better Adama, They had real first names and the Chief's acted like real NCO's.....
Besides that is Sucked.
