------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
First developed in the 2800's, this mech never got very popular or numerous.
It was meant as a siege unit, not as a trueBattleMech. The Bombard is just a
slow weapons platform with the heavy weapons needed for breaking down
fortifications and supporting the attackers. As such is wasn't usually
deployed with other mechs, instead serving with engineering troops or as
specialty units.

==Capabilities:==
Slow as molasses, well-armored, carrying excessively heavy armament. This is
an accurate description of the Bombard. Two LRM 20 racks for long-range
bombardment make it suitable for support roles. The ammo bins are actually
compartmentalized so that an ammo crew can reload one bin while the mech is
drawing missiles from the other one! If the artillery gets overrun by enemy
forces, the Bombard can certainly make any cocky light mech suffer for
straying too close. The left arm is the home of a Class 20 AC that has a very
large fire sector thanks to the McAle-type mount. This gun is, of course, also
useful for ordinary work like clearing mines and breaching walls. A medium
laser and a machine gun round out the armament.

Few people are aware of the two heavy jump jets hidden in the Bombard's torso.
These were added as an afterthought in case the unit has to move across broken
terrain, but the pilots assigned to Bombards seldom have any training in jump
jet use. Thus the jump jets are usually the last things on the service list
and better left unused if the situation isn't desperate.

==Variants:==
Some engineering units have replaced damaged LRM systems with SRM tubes,
typically mounting three SRM-6 racks with three tons of ammo instead of a LRM.
These mech are quite fearsome at short ranges but all too slow to really do
anything useful with the firepower.

A little slow, but I like it. If all it has to do is slowly trundle forward while the rest of the lance takes on the defenders, this could be a seriously mean mech. It just needs some help keeping lights off its back.

It's not even meant to be part of a lance. More like a specialist vehicle doing what it's supposed to do, supporting siege units. Not that a commander does anything wrong by assigning someone to defend it while it works. Artillery is always a favorite target for those who are about to get pounded by it

I have to feel sorry for those who would be in the building that this thing takes on. It would be a 'nice' suprise for an installation hidden in a dense city situation. After my most recent city battle I noticed how easily an opponent can forget about the lumbering 2-3-2 mech and ignore it until it is too late. I think I was using an Annilator. It did a nice job of getting itself lost in the streets until just the right moment to perform the cleanup duties.

Oh yes, this mech is Good, I pulled it at a local Turnament, I had 300 Tons to play with. This was my main Defender. It did Exactly what it was designed to do, rain death on the enemy and retreat into a city to get to better locations. The City walls were built about waist high to this mech, so i used that to my advantage as well

They all thought it was a "Bombardier" !! Immagine the look on their face when the Tournament GM said "The Mech's Math is all correct, Therefor I rule it Legal for this Tournament."

THANK YOU!

I might have to spring that one on my current opponent the next time we play. That is if he doesn't see it on this site before that. hehe

I like it. I especially loved the fluff part about the jumps jets.
