While I was writing about the obscure variants, I realised that there were a couple of variants in the Record Sheets with which I was unhappy. Some come from bad editing, some from plain sloppiness.
Gallowglas WD: Clearly, looking at the fluff, this should be a slightly different machine, but much truer to the original. The two ERML should be the replacement for the LL, not the MPL - so they should be in the right torso rather than in the left arm. It should only move 5/8/3, not 5/8/4 - no jj upgrade was ever mentioned, just a faster speed. That leaves one extra ton. Which means that the SL should be of the pulse variant, as stated in the book. Meaning that they belong in the LA as replacement for the MPL. Which means that this design, though possibly slightly less effective than the existing interpretation, would be much more true to spirit. This ain't my own interpretation, this is what is in the 3055 book! Bad RS editing.
A typo in TRO:3050 caused both ML of the Cyclops, which were originally spread over both arms, to suddenly appear in one arm. This was transferred into the RS by guys who just don't care and has since become canon. Same thing for the SRM4 of the Orion, which has slipped into the torso. The idiocy of that was taken one step further, when the Orion IIC suddenly had an SRM4 in its torso and a missile-launcher looking LL for which they invented a long and cumbersome explanation.
Then there is the case of the Kurita Shadowhawk that really should have its weapons and heat sink upgrade at the cost of armour, not the short-range armament. I don't know, there are other examples. But this post is pretty much becoming a ramble, so I'll stop! Those were just the examples that irked me most! _________________ "Rear armour is defeatist!" - unknown Kuritan Mechwarrior
The AC5 is a great gun!
On heat, 3025 style: A Rifleman knows no heat.
