Head shots . . . we love them when we score them against our enemies and we hate them when they're scored against us. They can easily turn a 100 ton death machine into a pile of scrap. I personally find this a cheap part of the game, although they are rare enough to almost be considered balanced. However, with bigger and meaner weapons coming out myabe it is time to reconsider the whole concept of heads and how they work in the game.
Personally, I would not mind it if "heads" were taken out of the game. I think Btech would improve if the "head" was integrated into the CT, and the CT crits and armor were expanded. This would be more realistic, as most military designs would not section their pilot into an easily identifiable and vulnerable portion of the machine. Plus you wouldn't have to worry about head capping, although a roll of snake-eyes on the to-hit could now ruin your day as your cockpit could be shot out.
Now I know there are torso cockpit rules in Maxtech, but those are L3 and could be better written.

I also like how head shots are handled. Not too common, but they happen.

Agreed, I see no issue with the way head shots are resolved.

In my revised 3025 readout, I redesigned several 'Mechs so they could use Torso mounted cockpits.
Wit th this hangover, I can't recall the adjustments I made, but the Maximum Tech rules were good.
A few of the revised 'Mechs had 10 points of armor in the head.
And I think that the 'Mech heads are kinda like in fucntion to the commander cupola in tanks. _________________ Memento audare semper

My problem is with the fastly multiplying "head hunter" weapons. I'm getting sick of the "huge damage with no drawback" weapons being used.
IM(ns)HO it's ruining the game.

I'd like to see more IS and quad the points of armor. 6 points of IS, and 24 points for Armor....

I get tired of ERPPC's and Gauss rifles to the head. Can't we stick to Boots????

Chihawk called it. Long range head chopping weapons are the problem. Before you hhad to get close, AC 20, or really lucky, AC/10 PPC (get the crits and then teh right ones) Heads was a cool system and gave it flair, otherwise they are tanks. When the Guass came out, then clan ERPPC came out, long rnage slug fest to whack heads begame the order of the day. Nothing was more fun than the 1pt LRM that finished the guy off that had air conditioning due to previous laser hits.
AWAD- Tourney was one on the first round due to a gauss hit to the head

Or maybe a lower chance for a head hit at distance. I know AWAD's Pain about getting three strides onto the board and taking a head-shot from 22 hexes away. No fun... At least, let me see the in-duh-vidual who trying to blow my head off.....

The ability to rip a head off in one lucky shot is why I dislike the Gauss, and ERPPC.
At least with the AC20 if I get close enough for you to use it, it is my own decision.
I like the concept, I truly hate some of the newer weapons.

How about some weapons losing damage the farther they hit from.. Say a guass rifle only does 10 at long distances????
