------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
The Headhunter Ground Attack Craft was developed as a space-launched ground support unit for planetary invasions. As such it is superbly equipped for ground support
missions, but requires help if the opposition has any fighters with long-range weapons.

==Capabilities:==
The Headhunter is specialized in short-range attacks against ground targets. The main weaponry consists of four medium lasers and four medium pulse lasers, all tied into a sophisticated targeting computer. The nose mounts two ML above two PML in recessed firing ports, while the wings mount one of each side-by-side in a thickened bulge about halfway to the tip. The same bulge serves as the base for a five-bomb rack, which is usually loaded at the start of a mission. To get some protection from enemy fighters the Headhunter has a
rear-firing SSRM-2 rack, one tube on each side of the tail fin. While ASFs aren't likely to respect it, conventional fighters should do so. As for armor, the HH-3A is covered in 12,5 tons of Ferro-aluminium. Four tons of fuel is
spread out in several tanks, ensuring the craft has some staying power. External fuel tanks can also be mounted instead of one or both bomb racks, extending the mission time considerably.

==Battle History:==
Only a wing has seen combat as of 3067, with mixed success. Most of the fighters were lost in accidents caused by low-quality parts and shoddy workmanship. Fragile frames, incorrectly stressed armor and unreliable fuel
injection systems account for half of these. All corrected by use of proper materials. The rest of the lost fighters may have been destroyed by heat sink failure. It would appear that firing all weapons (lasers+SSRM) causes the heat sinks to shut down completely, leading to severe overheating. This causes an ammo explosion or total manueverability loss - which usually means a crash. The reason is still unknown, and the craft type is grounded until a solution is found.

The five vessels that managed to reach combat were effective. The fact that two of them were lost while returning was disheartening, though.

It is not known whether the WoB have solved the problem, IF they've stolen the
design. The Lyrans aren't likely to even try it before they've taken care of some more pressing matters.

==Deployment==
The HH-3A was developed by Wangker Aerospace during the FC civil war, but wasn't deployed in strength. The fighter was rushed into production without testing, and the results were catastrophic. There are currently fifteen operational HH-3A fighters on Axton.

There are reports of Headhunter fighters in service with WoB forces on Terra, but they are unconfirmed.

At least two Headhunters were lost to Lyran forces, but it is unknown what happened to them. The Lyran Alliance presumably has the blueprints for the Headhunter, but the design isn't likely to be put in production anytime soon.
