These tiny mechs are probably the closest thing to protomechs out side the Clans.

it would be a considerable problem for the types of forces that would be found
inside an industrial building The twin SPLs would be able to inflict fair
damage to infantry or battle armour and thier acccuracy would help to cut down
misses the mech carries maximum armour for its size

slow it down, remove xl, and you got a factory patroler.

i still say that a less manuverable, less advanced protomech could easily be constructed by the Inner Spere.

i tinkered with that. called them guages.

Because of the possability of having to cross open spaces like a parking lot or street I like to have a little speed also it would be usefull to be able to get from one point to another quickly to be able to react to an attack if you are at one end of the complexand the other end gets hit you do not want to take all day to get there.

thats near 9m a second. i judge that as fast enough to respond to an incurrsion. even then, 3/5 is far better then 4/6. something this small, waists money and time using an xl. that material that could be going elseware.

When you get this small the cost differances for high tech engines actualy are not that much higher when I first posted these I had people tell me that for that purpose I could go with a Larger ICE powered mech a few months later somebody else posted a thirty ton design with an ice engine it was slower had thinner armour a lighter weapon load and COST MORE!!! you better believe I made noise over that when I saw it

i'm not worried about cost per unit. i'm talking cost efficency. this includes the logistics, production, fielding, maintence, and repairs.

first in order to make these xl engines you need a production facility, then ship in materials [that special xl material with mondo increased cost], shape materials, test design, and facalty pay.

second you'll need surpluses parts, with a hirer maintence program to maintain the engine, and replacement material for the replacement parts.

then on top of all that, you loose your prescious core anytime you get shot by a ppc equivalent or better weapon. where as a standard has a far better chance of surviving a battle intact. still not great, but you reduced it from 3/8 to 1/8.

4/6 on such a lite machine still means death. +2 to-hit at max for movement. i don't know to many heavies and assults that DON'T get hit atleast once. Once is all this mech needs.

but then, thats my out look. XL's IMHO while more prolific in 3068 are still treasures. i see an enter monopoly forming around the metals needed to build the core. So its far more cost effective to purchase and build older engines, and probibly more profitable.

Vagabod:one thing that you need to remember about my 10 ton designs they are not intended to fight other mechs and any one who goes up against a battlemech in one of these is either suicidal or very desparate while they could damage a mech with their weapons they are too small to carry enough armour for battefield service. they are intented for plant security and their intended opponants are basicaly street thugs.

One thing to keep in mind with these specialized units is the specialized envionments they will be used in Factory complexes have lots of cubby holes and such that could provide cover for such a small compact machine.Say a pirate force some how manages to get by the naval and air/aerospace forces to land near the plant their larger mechs and tanks would be out in the open the little HD-8s on the other hand would by fireing from INSIDE buildings under bridges and catwalks and other such cover so you would have to blast away the cover to get to the mech assuming that the little mech does not pull back deeper into the complex fighting a dealaying and harrasment action until re-enforcments arrive denying the attacker of the quiet zone needed to load booty. The idea in that type of sittuation is not to destroy the attacker out right but to interfer and delay which I believe these machines could do quite successfuly af course against softskin vehicles they would be quite a threat as well as against unarmoured personel and the armour is adaquet against typical man carried weapons.
