It'd be like Casper...'cept instead of friendly, it would be trying to repent for it's sins and be a blubbering jellypile of grievances because the MILLIONS OF TORMENTED SOULS of Mech2 players will never see another simulation as good as Mech2. Mech2 set the standard back then: it WAS the benchmark. You had 99%, then Mech2. There was no 100%. I wish Microsoft would take a page out of Fasa's book; the multiplayer of Mech4 is fun but single player sucks. And what happened to the great soundtrack and graphics? Mech2 looks almost as good as 4, and Mech2 had some seriously awesome tribal beats, I listen to them on burned CD's to this day. Remember decent-looking light amplification and enhanced imaging? Remember fighting in a different world every time? And, the crowning glory: remember when LRM20's shot 20 missiles, not 4? And how cool it looked, and they actually DID damage? Remember the really-cool missile locks, where if you put your crosshair over a mech it didn't take 45 seconds with an LRM to lock, or .0001 seconds with a SSRM?

What, hype everything up, go out business and leave everyone to fend for themselves....Sounds like what they're doing now....

Mechwarrior 2 did have its problems, like the uber deadliness of Pulse Lasers, the slow ass PPCs and the hover-like controls for the Jump jets (though Mechwarrior 3's were MUCH MUCH worse! ^^)

In my opinion Mercs was better than Mech 2, in terms of story and design, But GBL took the cake!

And that reminds me, I need to find my old GBL scenarios that I made!

Like I said in the thread about too many mechs: they had to crank things out like that in order to keep the money and attention of each new generation of players despite the alienation factor among the older ones.

That's pretty much it. It was a choice between stagnation and bringing in new toys every so often, but FA$A really went overboard with it.

Maybe what they should have done is release a few mechs at a time. Instead we got 20 new mechs with TRO2750 in 1989, another 25 or so with 1990, and then 30 more or so in 1992 with TRO3055.

They would have done much better to have releases the new equipment a little at a time, then a mech or two per sourcebook or scenario pack instead of the huge explosion of equipment we got.

Part of the problem, as noted before, was there was no logic in how the technology boom happened. In the fluff for 3050 the equipment was just starting to trickle in. Two years later every mech is decked out in Gauss rifles and ERPPCs. The CapCon goes from barely able to defend it's boarders to becoming a huge military power in the matter of a few novels.

I guess I just wish FA$A would have paid a little lip service to economics and realitiy once in a while.

Like I said- Hasbro's handling of the G. I. Joe 3 3/4 toy line is a perfect example of both releasing too many at a time (especially in 1993) and releasing too few items at a time (2000 on.)

Dear Hardware........ We must have been kin seperated at birth. I can give a couple of factors that may have lead to a surge but a renianssance of Mech Warfare, Hardly.

1) Comstar did not have as tight grip on the technology as we thought they did. Or maybe some other faction was trying to release the technology to help them cleanse the sickness eating up Comstar.

2) NAIS and the likes have a much bigger impact then we think. Look even in modern times how a single place can lead to a bunch of innovations.

3) War leads to major innovations. Getting slaughtered leads to desperation. So the Clanners would have booting things in the ass ASAP, but the mega facilites would not have exisited.

4) Cool stuff found in the deep Pheriphery that never gets mentioned in the books. What would happen if someone stumbled across on of the Dragoons backup caches.

All in all not great but plausable for a surge. A great example of the insane growth..... Cappella after the 4th Succession War. Just add water and Presto instant military industrial complex.

AWAD- I can not even name any mechs from 3060

all good reason Awad, Viking, because i love missles

Anybody remember saying, "Oh shit, they've got an Awesome!" and meaning it?

I recal Ardan Sortek kind of saying that in the novel "Sword and the Dagger". And he was even piloting a Victor at the time. HA!

Then again, way back when, the first time you threw 2 Archers against our rookie ShadHawk and Griff pilots, I think I said the same thing " oh s***!"

I agree that the Btech universe was way cooler as a era of technological decay (3025). "Life is cheap, 'Mech are not", just doesn't have the same ring to it in 3067.

we must have been seperated at birth

I remember when an Atlas was scary.

I remember when TRO 2750 came out and I saw the King Crab with those 2 AC/20.

I remember having to manage heat. And playing for salvage. And when water was a reason for fighting. And when you would start a scenario missing armor, or ammo, or weapons.

I miss those days.
