I was just wondering how many people had faught full scale planetary battles with weather, supplies... including but not limited to armour, internals, jump jets, double heat sinks, ammo, actuators, gyros, engines, weapons, a strategic battle map as well as standard FASA maps for engagements.

I'm just wondering if anyone else goes this in depth for a Steiner Regiment on 5 Companies of Draconis Combine forces, and a Trinary of last I heard Ghost Bear Forces.

I have done something of that scale twice. It was very challenging. I made up a whole bunch of random roll lists for how other troops were doing on the planet and also a bunch of random events. After the second one I was just tired of keeping track of everything and stopped doing it. But for a once in a while kind of thing it wasn't too bad as long as you have the time to spend on it.

I have done all that but on a gaming table I do not like to use the maps anymore.

going 3d just adds so much to the game.

I play every campain with my merc unit like that I play one battle then have 4 hours or more of paperwork, It's about a real as I can get.

gotta pay the troops
gotta pay the maintance
gotta pay the ammo/repair costs
gotta colllect my contact payment
gotta collect my BLC SS and TransComp.
and do the accounting for all of it.
oh and pay transport fees
gotta pay for new eqquipment and the mod that have to be done.
not to mention keep and accounting on the current supplies and spares for my unit
as well as plan the sucsessful mission beer bashes.

man a merc unit rides on it's paperwork!

right now I am trying to figure out how I can pay the bank for this months Dropship payment, gotta pay it somehow or my intrest rate will get jacked up in to the upper teens.

well after this mission Hopefully I will have some real nice clan salvage to sell and mabey pay off a huge chunk of the DS.

Current Contract
Part of a PS vs Clan GB

my combined arms company vs a green front line trinary.
me them
18568BV vs 28491BV

Gonna be a tough fight but I got full salvage right!!!!!! had to take crappy BLC to get it though 15% ouch

rigel

BTW I play all of this solitare because there is a lack of BT players in the KC area.

I don't do quite that much paperwork, and I don't normally role up the events.

I plan everything out (generally, with some room for my players to deviate). To simplify my life I normally put my players in a regular army unit. If I have a particularly experienced player I'll make him the CO and he can play with the details.

As a general rule, I don't use something unless it will advance the plot and the story.

Bad weather is just bad weather unless it somehow messes up their plans. A rainstorm washes out the roads and they have to do a suborbital hop to get their mechs to the other side of the continent, or a it snows and freezes a river thick enough for infantry to cross, thus turning the player's carefully constructed bridge choke point into a seige situation.

And money and paperwork, that's just a pain, and it's needless complication unless it will advance the plot. The unit is low on cash and has to take this job no one wanted to get off planet, much less break even.

Now, players who do particularly poorly in the economics business will find themselves is a world of hurt, as their choices will often effect the next weeks chapter.

And, yo, Rigel, I live in Blue Springs during the summer (as in, until the Spring semester starts at SMSU). We should find a third and at least blow some stuff up.

I've got a player controlling each force.

I've got the outnumbered DCMS under my commander.

DarkAdder will command the Trinary

and my good pal keith will continue his reign of incompetance with his Steiner social general this time with a complete regiment.

Subcommanders get to use company sized formations but the main players control supply, parts, and all that fun stuff.
