All To true, but you should give Medieval a go, the variation in units is nice, it's not just lots of samurai/Ashigaru/Monks killing each other, wich can get boring.

dunno......

i realy like shogun total war.

but then i obsess about most things japanese.

and as for the same units over and over, thats what makes the game truely fun. the strategy and tactics you must imploy to win, not some super unit that woops all they asses.

The basic Spearman can take on (front the front, Feudal Knight and win. It's refreshing to see a well planned and somewhat cheap army take on an expensive Elite one and win, with Shogun it was always who ever spent more on honor and armor

Played them all. Still do, when I feel like it. Right now I`m playing Arcanum, though.

I had a hell of a lot of fun with Total War. My first time to conquer the world I played the Poles and conquered everybody. And for most of the battles I did not autoplay them, but commanded my forces instead.

The fight I liked the best was the only time I wound up with a river and a long bridge seperating the two sides. Only a small area on the other side of the bridge was within range of my archers and the AI had no one placed there to get hit and plenty of archers backing up its own front line units.

I had to force an assault across the bridge, carefully moving my troops into position and into colums for the dash across, while the German AI lined up his forces just on the other side just barely out of archer range and waited. This was a campaign using large units mind you.

Three units of knights, including the general led the attack, and were crushed. The general wound up fleeing into the woods with about 400 Germans chasing him all over the other side of the map. Meanwhile 2 whole infantry units of spearmen charged, hitting the intact enemy while still in disarray.

But while they were getting chopped up, a full strength unit in good armor got across and was able to line up and present only seconds before the Germans attacked them. And while they held I got another unit of spearmen across the bridge and formed up on the left and hit the Germans in the flank and broke them just as the first archers had dashed across and formed at the foot of the bridge to begin firing while about 200 polish retainers were moving through and around them to flow out to both flanks and route the whole lot of them.

The majority of my army just sat there and watched while the troops I did commit broke and routed and force at least 3 times their size that had a very good position.

Both sides had the max number of units and the AI put up a pretty good fight. And even better, I got to save it and replay it to see it go down from different camera viewpoints. Man, this is one of the games I've waited to see for a long time.

I'd love to see something like Medieval Total War done for the Napoleonics wars, the Roman Empire, even WWII.

I have it now, and it is alot of fun. I really like the way they work the country aspects.

The further you are from your home country the tougher to control..
Different Religions make for very unhappy subjects...
The more you control, it gets incredibly hard to actually keep the money flow going, and the peasants happy..

I've been having alot of fun with it so far.
