Overview:
In May 3067 the graduating classes of the Luthien Acadamy Of Military Design got a
challenging task to accomplish.
They had to design a BattleMech with the latest CAD-technology and under following terms:
1. Take a classic BattleMech design used in the 3rd Succession War.
2. Construct an OmniMech chassis upon this basis.
3. Suggest weapon configurations for that chassis; at least four but not more than seven.
3. a) The primary configuration has to be based upon the original weapon layout of the
classic design.
3. b) If possible include following configuration types: city-fighter, LRM-support,
fire-support/sniper.
All OmniMechs were graded by a committee and loaded into a battlefield simulation program.
The LCT-O was presented by Student Serina Kawamata.
Capabilities:
Student Kawamata kept the original speed and armor but used an EndoSteel-chassis and the new
light engine to save tonnage.
This measures allowed the LCT-O to carry respectable 5,5 ton as pod-space.
Intrigued by the firepower of the new LCT-5M, that just started to walk off the Corean
production lines, she used the same weapon loadout for the primary configuration (though the
original LCT-1V, after that this configuration had to be modelled, carried MG's) and
augmented it by a targeting computer. An active probe rounds off its equipment.
The A-configuration was designed as an anti-vehicle measure carrying two streak launcher
besides a medium ER laser.
To serve the LRM-support niche the B features double LRM-5's but only a limited (though
CASEd) ammo supply and no backup weapon similar to the LCT-3D of 3050.
The C and D were infantry hunters with MG's and Flamers respectively and a medium class
laser as main gun.
As very interesting configuration the E carried only limited firepower but was able to do a
210 meter jump by carrying 7 torso-mounted jump jets.
Finally the F served as a sniper with its large ER laser.
The trials the academys battlefield simulation program revealed an unsuspected problem:
Though 130 kph was considered extremely fast in 3025 the light mechs of a 3067 battlefield
often outperformed it. So the protection by means of speed wasn't as high as expected.
Despite that each configuration worked well within its intended role except the B-variant.
Kawamata repeated the mistakes of the LCT-3D's designers more than 17 years ago because she
thought that the additional armor protection would let it survive. But even though it had a
much better survivability it failed to achieve its objectives due to ammo shortage. It had
to retreat from combat much too soon and was doomed if cornered because it had neither a
defense weapon nor jump
jets.
Variants:
Serina Kawamata designed two additional configurations that were dropped as she was only
allowed to submit a maximum of 7 configurations. Dubbed G and H this versions carried a
medium and small ER laser combination and a staggering array of RL-10 (G) and small ER
lasers (H) respectively.

Overview:
In May 3067 the graduating classes of the Luthien Academy Of Military Design got a
challenging task to accomplish.
