Overview:
The MNT-2R Minotaur was the Taurian Concordant’s first attempt to design and build an
assault-class BattleMech. Thr 100 ton design should have been a game changer, but although
relatively effective for its time, there were several considerations that soon relegated it
to the annals of history.
Capabilities:
From the outset, Taurian engineers were given several objectives to achieve with the design.
Although they basically fulfilled them all, they did not effectively fulfill any of them.
They were told to make the design heavily armored, and so gave it 17 tons of armor plate,
which was still lacking for its size.
They were told to make it heavily armed. A pair of 15 racks of long-range missiles, each fed
from a two ton ammunition bay gave it long-range firepower, a type 10 autocannon could hit
hard from more median ranges. And a trio of medium lasers and a 4 pack of short-range
missiles gave it punch up close. With 16 supporting heat sinks, it could use this firepower
at long-range or up close, but not both at the same time without incurring large heat
penalties.
It was to be made mobile. A type 400 fusion core would have consumed too much mass, so the
engineers had to go with a more stock Vlar 300 fusion core for a top ground speed of 54 kph.
A pair of rear torso mounted jump jets allowed it to leap up to 60 meters at a time to help
give it back some mobility, but this was less range than it could have had.
Combined, these issues resulted in a very short life of the design of only a few decades, as
it was felt other, smaller designs were more effective in combat.
Deployment:
Although a few units received the Minotaur, the invasion by the SLDF and its allies would
soon eliminate all of these machines. It is thought that only a few old relics exist today
in museums or family hangers.
