Mechanically, its a perfectly adequate design. It could be used, but without any sense of excitement. It doesnt have enough anchoring in a setting. Which stands out more in this case because it does have a bit of fluff.

What compel you to comment on a design verses one you do not?
Yes your correct I wanted a low cost medium mech with good fire power, it is a Yao Lien derivative with out the high cost of improved jumps jets.

Mostly fluff. A mech thats posted as just a bunch of numbers tends to get a quick scan to see if anything goofy is going on to give it character. The answer is usually no.

Mechs that have bare bones copy and paste fluff (project 102s for example.) Or just a list of technologies used (a good number of your designs.) Also tend to only get a cursory glance. Novelty in design, or some twist will gain attention. For example the project 102 Atlas recieved commentary because the design did not fit the goal stated in the fluff.

For units with fluff, I'll try to comnent. Partially to give feedback that effort is noticed. Its also easier to find something to say when you have an idea where a design is coming from. You can judge if the design meets its intended purpose, or how well it fits in to the universe.

In this case there was just a bit of fluff. But it could be better. And I'll admit that criticizing is not the most productive method of feedback to encourage effort.

But you do have the bones needed to give a bit more soul to the mech. You have a motive (cheaper alternative to the Yao Lien), you have method (rebuilt kintaro chassis from the Jihad), just add a who (MAF quartermaster? Corrupt senator looking for kickbacks?) and maybe a when (design was present at this battle where it did a thing.) And the design becomes a living part of the story.

Or one of my usual routes "this design does this. It does it using this method. Sometimes I've actually used the unit and have anecdote about it." Since I tend to design game units more then fluff units.


Thing I wonder about is who are you designing units for? Do you plan on using them, or are you running an upgrade project and just going through a list upgrading as you go?

So I do design to use these mechs on the table top, also I have a Unit called the Canopian Cataphracts that specializes in pirate hunting in the New Colony Region and the Taurian Concordat and Magistracy. I envision a unit outside of the MAF and the local militia that is part house unit and mercenary unit so low cost mechs do not need resupply is the bulk of the unit, but I make a few exceptions for mech I like and redesigns.
