Overview:
This is one of those crazy ideas that looks good on paper, but in practice doesn't work out
so well in the field. Still, whats the point of being post scarcity if you don't at least
explore the dumber ideas your people come up with.
Capabilities:
Intended as a defense oriented combat unit, the Slapjack has decent firepower, ok armor, and
terrible mobility. Twin hyper assualt gauss cannons provide the bulk of the firepower. A
large pulse laser makes the best use of the fusion engine's inherent ability to deal with
heat. A targeting computer makes all of these weapons more effective. The weapons are
mounted into the heavilly slanted front of the tank. This would normally not be considered
the best idea, but the lack of a turret does help beef up the armor. Instead of a turret,
the Slapjack opted for a rocket powered lift system. On its own, this system is hazardous
to the drive train of the tank, but in an emergency can maintain minimal combat
manueverability. Or you can push a bunch of tanks off the side of a dropship for a suprise
insertion. Which.... is highly not recomended.
Deployment:
Testing has not been kind to the Slapjack. It doesn't help that their first test pitted
them against a s
Savannah Master swarm. The only "good" news is that the Slapjacks impressively slow ground
speed made them such tempting targets to the swarm that they couldn't resist entering the
kill box of a pair of OKS Reapers. Half the swarm was obliterated in just moments once that
happened. The Slapjacks succumbed in short order though.
