Overview:
The Vulcan was an uncommon sight among the Clans, a relic of the Inner Sphere's past that
most would have discarded as inferior. However, Clan Hell’s Horses had always valued
unconventional assets, and the VLN-5H "Iron Hoof" was a testament to that philosophy.
Originally salvaged from a battle against the Lyran Commonwealth, this Inner Sphere relic
was slated for decommissioning—until Star Commander Vhalen saw its potential.
A skilled and aggressive warrior, Vhalen had grown up favoring rapid-strike tactics,
harassing enemy forces and burning through weak points in their formations. His experience
with light and medium ‘Mechs led him to refit the *Iron Hoof* into something worthy of
Clan Hell’s Horses: a fast, well-armored predator with a vicious bite.
With full Clan-tech upgrades, the once-maligned Vulcan was transformed into a true cavalry
‘Mech. The primitive armor was stripped away and replaced with Clan-grade armor plating,
while an Endo Steel frame reduced weight, allowing for additional firepower. A Clan double
heat sink system kept its weapons in check, ensuring it could strike hard and fast without
overheating.
Weapon Loadout & Combat Role
- The Heavy Flamer in the right arm turned Iron Hoof into a brutal anti-infantry weapon and
an ideal tool for flushing out dug-in enemies.
- A quartet of Machine Guns, linked to a Machine Gun Array, made it a true terror against
infantry and light armor, shredding enemies in close combat.
- The ER Large Laser, mounted in the right torso, gave the ‘Mech unexpected reach,
allowing it to engage at range before closing in.
- A Medium Pulse Laser in the left torso provided accurate, close-range punch against
armored targets.
- Upgraded Clan armor improved survivability, allowing Iron Hoof to endure engagements that
a standard Vulcan never could.
