Overview:
The Argus is an example of second generation protomech design. No longer constrained by the
false precept that protomechs are just very small mechs, this design heavilly leans into the
realization that larger protomechs can be better armed and armored while also being faster
then lighter designs for only a marginal increase in cost.
Capabilities:
The Argus explores the edges of mobility for the design options available at the time.
Capable of jumping upto 300 meters in a single bound, the Argus proved to be fiendishly
difficult to hit. Which is a good thing, since in order to have any payload worth
mentioning armor coverage had to be stripped.
The initial purpose of the Argus was to provide an easy way to augment a Star with enhanced
scouting capability. The oddities of the Clan bidding system would allow a single "Point"
of Arguses to have the scouting potential of an entire Star of scout mechs. This oddity
also gives an advantage compared to the more logical light vehicle path to scouting. Sure a
VTOL with the same capabilities would be cheaper in every way, but you would still only get
2 of them.
Variants:
The Argus was one of a number of attempts aimed at incorporating Omni-technology into
protomechs. In the Argus's case mounting its equipment package in the main gun at least
made for easy refits to other 1 ton systems such as ECM or TAG.
