Overview:
The Slungshot is an offshoot of the Wolf empire's Blackjack IIIC program. The Blackjack
IIIC program was an initiative to improve upon the old Blackjack Omni by incorporating AES.
The Blackjack Omni was chosed because it is a well understood weapons platform able to punch
above it's own weight. This made it an ideal canidate to bolster a depleted touman. Which
brings us bacl to the Slungshot. It is nearly identical to the Blackjack IIIC, the main
difference being mobility and cost. One is less important when you're second line forces
intent on holding ground, and the other is very important when there is lots of territory
that needs defenders nearby.
Capabilities:
Only able to move as fast as most larger assualt mechs, the Slungshot is a dedicated fire
support mech, which is fine by it. Mounting the same 26 tons of pod space as the Blackjack
IIIC when both mechs are fitted with their compliment of Jump jet pods, the Slungshot can
fit a wide variety of arm mounted weapons. And the AES fixed into those arms assures that
the fire will be accurately delivered to the target. The only other "major" change between
the Blackjack IIIC and the Slungshot is the leg armor being reinforced thanks to lower
articulation needs due to the reduced mobility. Oddly the engine swap is not a major
change. The standard engine plus additional cooling peripherals it requires just happen to
fit into the engine bay taken up in the Blackjack IIIC's XL engine.
Notable MechWarriors:
Slungshot is a stupid name. It was chosen because its adjacent to Blackjack in concept, and
because it's such a bad name no one else had bothered to use it.
