Overview:
The Ahulane, named after a Mayan god of Archery, is a relatively new Heavy Battle tank seen
primarily with the Hell Horses, though Clan Coyote also possess a number of them due to
recent events. Commissioned to showcase the HAG weapon system on a new and powerful
vehicular chassis, the Ahulane brings a respectable amount of firepower to the battlefield.
In time it was expected that the Ahulane would of supplanted the Mars Assault Vehicle as the
Premier assault tank in the clans.
This is not to be it seems. The sudden dislocation of the Hell Horses has brought production
of this vehicle to a halt. A few can be found in the Inner Sphere, but in Clan space Most
belong to the Coyotes now. Meanwhile New Models of failure Clan vehicles are appearing
mounting HAGs of their own, particularly the Oro and Athena. With these Vehicles to carry
HAGs into battle, the need for a new tank to mount HAGs is absent.
Capabilities:
While in it's hay day, the Ahulane was truly fearsome in terms of firepower. The showcase
weapon for this tank was a Pair of Type 2 HAG-30 Cannons. These weapons are able to project
firepower equivalent to ultra heavy auto cannons nearly twice the range of said ultra heavy
auto cannons. Additional benefits of this weapon can be seen against Vehicles, Infantry,
and especially AeroSpace units.
The Secondary weapon system of the Ahulane is powerful in it's own right. A pair of ATM-9
Missile Launchers gives a wide profile of engagement ranges. As a Determined enemy presses
closer, the more dangerous the Ahulane becomes. The final Weapon of the Ahulane is a pair
of ER Medium lasers. Though almost unnoticeable next to the newer and more powerful weapon
systems seen in the clans today, they still represent a major asset combining a very decent
range and a very solid punch. Or put another way, the Clan ER Medium Laser is almost as
powerful as an Inner Sphere Large Laser.
Defensively, the Ahulane carries more armor then older models of clan vehicles. Perhaps
influenced by the Heimdall, the Ahulane's armor is 69% over the "Average" armor curve. As
an added bonus an ECM system is mounted, a useful feature given the prevalence of advanced
Missile targeting systems found today. It is this level of protection that made it possible
for the Ahulane to outshine the older Mars tanks. Testing shows that while an Ahulane could
stand up to the fire of a Mars, the Mars would be gutted by the return fire a large
percentage of the time.
There is a dark side to the Ahulane's capabilities. First is it's ground speed. Moving no
faster then the Mars, the Ahulane is simply not capable of participating in a moving battle.
This tends to regulate it to Defensive actions. This is fortunate since the other problem
with the Ahulane is a dependence receiving ammo reloads. With it's main gun not even to
maintain fire for 2 minutes before running dry, it is in the Ahulane's best interest to end
a fight as fast and hard as possible.
Deployment:
One Clan to truly feel the bite of the Ahulane is Clan Cloud Cobra. Though it is uncertain
how Clan Coyote acquired so many Ahulanes they have been rather ruthless in using them in
trials against Clan Cloud Cobra. The HAG weapon system has proven to be devastating to the
Cloud Cobra's traditional use of Aerospace assets.
Variants:
Recently the Hell Horses have been seen to use a variant of the Ahulane in their Inner
Sphere holdings. The ATM's are stripped away and replaced with a pair of LRM-15's.
Additional Ammo is added improving the Ahulane's ability to stay on the battlefield, while a
pair of Light Machine Guns are added as an after thought. Apparently these Ahulanes were
shipped from Clan space rather hurriedly to the point where they were not yet finished being
constructed. Sadly it looks as though these will be the last Ahulanes constructed. Given
the pressure to rearm as fast as possible the Hell Horses will no doubt resort to quick and
dirty designs that are cheap and simple for the foreseeable future.

Notes from the future:
Another old design. Probably built near when HAGs first came out. I suspect the idea was
to showcase newer technologies, while being cheaper tgen the Mars.
