Overview:
In the early 3070's Clan Snow Raven staged Trial of Possessions against Clan Jade Falcon
and Clan Goliath Scorpions. In both cases the Trial of possession went in the Ravens favor
given the light opposition presented.
From the Goliath scorpions the Improved Heavy Laser was received. The amicable relationship
between the scorpions and Ravens reduced the bidding to a single Star on both sides. Only
one mech suffered significant damage due to an unlucky ammo hit. The other mechs suffered
superficial damage to their armor and light structural damage, both sides allowing hegira
once a mech's armor was breached.
The Trial against the Jade Falcons was much harder. The Trial of Possession was fought to
claim Laser Reflective Armor, Both the Jade Falcons' limited stockpile, and the specs to
produce more. Though the Jade Falcons made almost no use of this armor type, the very fact
that it belonged to them required a much more vigorous response. On the other hand fighting
over something the Falcons don't use much anyways would be a waste of resources. In the end
a Trinary was Bid for the defense. Two stars were composed of Newer mechwarriors, while the
Third star was elite, they're purpose being to ensure victory. The Ravens on the other hand
responded with a highly mixed unit composed of Fighters, Conventional Vehicles, and
Omnimechs.
The Jade Falcon's first clue that things were going wrong appeared when a group of Asshur
Artillery Spotters suicidally broke cover and proceeded to paint the Elite Star with their
TAGs. Though they died within seconds of leaving their cover, they lasted long enough for a
Rain of laser Guided bombs to wreck the Fade Falcon's backstop. The remaining battle
proceeded to its inevitable conclusion with the Ravens now having the advantage in overall
skill.
Capabilities:
The result of such a cost in treasure and blood was the Ankt; a fast hovercraft with a very
large spear With a top speed of around 150kph the Ankt is able to keep up with all but the
fastest of units.The Improved Large Heavy Laser gives devastating firepower, but without
the inherent accuracy flaws of the first generation of Heavy Lasers. The Coating of Laser
reflective armor gives this unit enhanced defense against some of the most common weapons in
use, especially Pulse lasers the traditional bane of fast units. What makes the Ankt
special is it's mass. Based on the known weapons, armor and speed, this tank is to small.
The secret to the Ankt is a much older technology nearly forgotten, Laser Insulation.
Though Bulky in the extreme, this technology allows the heat sinks of a unit to operate more
efficiently by preventing the lasers heat build up from spreading into the rest of the unit.
Though the Higher localized heat has a tendency to burn out the equipment within the Laser,
it also increases the rate that the cooling fluid absorbs energy reducing the need for extra
heat sinks. It's adverse side effects on the laser as well as it's unremarkable performance
when compared to double heat sinks lead to a decline in this technologies usage until only
Clan Snow Raven was really even aware of it's existence. Even then it was only a historical
footnote about the Chippewa, an aerospace fighter dating back to the star league.
Fortunately the pressing times since the 50's have resulted in new efforts to find advantage
on the battlefield. In the resulting press to find new technologies and to revisit the old
for inspiration; laser insulation was noted as a possible technologiy to be looked into.
Though it's performance on Mechs and Fighters with their access to double heat sinks proved
to be of nominal use, Vehicles with their inability to utilize double heat sinks found a
powerful new tool. The total domination of this tool is mitigated by it's bulk. even a
100ton tank will quickly run out of space if it attempts to over utilize Insulated Lasers,
But it is still a tool that will improve the overall efficiency of Vehicles in the long run.

This tank uses an Improved Heavy Large Laser. and Eight units of Laser Insulation. The
Insulation takes up 8 Vehicle Slots. leaving this tank with only 1 Vehicle slot remaining.
The Laser Reflective armor takes up the other remaining slot.
The Funkilly named custom weapon is a combined mass, cost, and heat of the total
Laser/Insulation system. It's inelegant, but HMVee will not let me produce a Custom weapon
with Negative Heat, Something needed to properly describe Laser Insulation.

So the original design was errataed out of existence, which would make this a "United
Freeman Brane" design now.
Originally it had a standard engine. Switching to an XL engine was required when it was
ruled you could only have 1 laser insulator per energy weapon. That converted 7 of them
into heat sinks. But on the bright side the turret did get a bit lighter so only 3 tons
needed to be found. Net result is a unit with the same stats, that costs more cbills. And
its not as interesting, and its fluff is just mildly wrong. Oh well.
