Overview:
Wunderwaffe have a special place in the hearts of the Reichssphare. They're big, they're
powerful, they can have crushing psychological effect when they show up... They're
expensive. So while the Jabal Mobile Fire Base made an impression during its first
deployments, its exorbitant price tag limited how widely the concept of the Mobile Fire Base
could be used. A Cheaper alternative was required for the masses.
Capabilities:
At half the Mass, a bit more then half the firepower, and more then half the effective
armor, the Tala fulfills is major objective by being 11 times less expensive then the Jabal.
The basic concept of Mobile Fire Base is that vehicles are prone to mobility kills. Rather
then fight this fact, its more effective to embrace it and create a vehicle thats intended
to embrace it's roll as a glorified turret. Still, strategic mobility is a desirable trait.
This is where the WiGE chassis comes in. For a modest reduction in total payload you could
have a unit with more then two and a hald times the mobility. More even if you consider a
WiGE can maintain speed in semi-rough terrain, or water. WiGEs are also more resistant to
artillery and most landmines. There is a cost in losing mobility even faster once hostiles
are engaged, but that was the plan from the begining.
The combat payload focuses on the Long Tom Artillery Cannon. This weapon is powerful,
accurate, and capable of indirect fire. The last bit can prove to be important in denying
cover, and maintaining fire even as the suite of accompanying MML launchers come into their
own.
Deploying smoke is a major part of the Tala's survival strategy. It doesnt matter that
you've become a mobility kill if the enemy can no longer get a target lock on. A large ammo
capacity also allows the versatility of MMLs to be utilized switching between long and short
range secondary targets as needs permit. The medium lasers are an after thought.
Deployment:
Reichssphare defensive doctrine centers on clusters of planetary defense bunkers capable of
denying the orbitals. From within this protected interior they send out long range patrols
to scout and harass enemy forces that land far enough away to avoid the fixed defenses.
(The unfixed defenses can still give you suprise fits.) Once an enemy advance is found
cavalry units are deployed to crush them. The Tala fits in this roll, being able to smash
into enemy formations, or set up and hold a choke point to stop further advances.
