Overview:
Wanting a Battlemech that fulfilled the role of the "common soldier," the "Crystal Keep"
designers were quick to begin posing questions to tank crews and infantry teams for their
thoughts. That ended up being a mistake, as infantry teams wanted a Battlemech designed for
providing support in MOUT, and most tankers told the designers to get bent. In realizing
their mistake, designers then spoke with MechWarriors, and while results varied wildly, one
common underlying theme was born: survivability, reliability, firepower. With these thoughts
in mind, the design process began. Using proven weapons, placed on a reliable frame, powered
by SMA's standard fusion reactor, the EPT-12F "Epaulet" was born. With its primary weapons
being energy based, Epaulet can stay engaged away from supply lines for an extended time.
The one ammunition based weapon on board meant for critical seeking carries enough
ammunition to stay viable for long engagements when not abused right out of the gate. Being
a new design, the "Crystal Keep" waits eagerly for news and reviews on the Mech, go so far
as including a pamphlet in each newly produced Epaulet, explaining how to fill out the
accompanying survey form and how to send the MechWarrior's thoughts back to the forge. *HPG
