Overview:
Designed in parallel with the CVL-45A, the CRSH-44-CEV 'Crusher II' was designed as a
successor to the antiquated Crusher 12. More specifically, instead of attempting to
accomplish the CRSH-12A's original intended purpose, the CRSH-44-CEV (Combat Engineering
Vehicle) instead focused on being a better version of what the original ended up becoming; a
dedicated siege and urban warfare machine.
Utilizing the newly developed fusion engine technology that had revitalized engineering
across the entire Blackshield Company, the Crusher II eschewed the use of lasers in favor of
high volume missile combat. Mounting an LRM 15 on the front and a turret with two SRM 4s,
allowed for effective target engagement at all ranges with lessened need for proper
positioning.
A pair of flamers and the ever important bulldozer also allow this the CRSH-44-CEV to remain
equally as useful in urban combat scenarios, clearing rubble, infantry and armor alike. With
even more armor that its predecessor on top, it is consistently capable of taking as much
damage as it deals at still come out on top.
Capabilities:
Much like any Combat Engineering Vehicle, the CRSH-44-CEV 'Crusher II' is situational in its
effectiveness. While carrying enough weaponry to always prove reasonably effective, it truly
shines in any form of urban combat scenario; closing down choke-points, clearing out
reinforced positions and using indirect fire to support distant allies despite lacking
direct line of sight.
It is also fairly affordable for the damage it can bring to the table, meaning that more
than one can be fielded without too major of an investment if it is deemed truly necessary.
Deployment:
The CRSH-44-CEV 'Crusher II' is best deployed in frontline positions where it can soak up
the damage that may have otherwise been directed to softer brawlers, buying time and
punishing targets that try to get too close. In urban combat, the Crusher II can reliably
sweep through streets and narrow paths, blocking the way for enemy flankers and potentially
acting as a flanker itself.
In open field combat, its effectiveness is diminished by the lacking speed but can
nonetheless provide some crucial fire support. The LRM 15 can engage targets with equal
effect in almost any environment and while it cannot easily catch up to faster enemy units,
it makes for an affordable rear line guard and escort for softer units such as missile
boats.
Variants:
The CRSH-44 'Crusher II' has two variants.
The first, the CRSH-44-CEV, is the one discussed above.
The second, the CRSH-44-SAG (Siege assault gun), was a radically different variant meant for
pure frontline breakthrough operations. The LRM 15 along with the entire turret, including
both SRM 4s and one of the flamers, is replaced with a pair of large lasers mounted on
sponson turrets.
Notable MechWarriors:
None; even if a vehicle crew did attain fame, it would only be in the territories of the
Blackshield Company and thus of no significance to the major powers.
